I am starting to suspect that no weight of evidence, nor videos of Trump in his own words, will sway the one-reasonable people of FR that Trump is not the right candidate.

It is obvious to anyone still in retention of their faculties that Trump will go beyond mere disappointment to outright betrayal, worse that Boehner, Ryan, or McConnell.

But it doesn’t seem to matter. This is where we are.

Sad.

You might be right. The herd is running scared, and Donald Trump has convinced them he’s their strongman. It’s that simple.

I think it’s a lost cause. They are just as every bit the Kool-Aid drinkers as Obama supporters ever were.

As someone who (stupidly) voted for Ventura, this is the exact same scenario, same type of candidate. I get the same vibes. And we all know how that turned out.

Good luck, FR.

I too an dismayed, but it’s too early to give up. There are many to come here to see what conservatives think, and if all they see is support for Trump, they may think Trump is a conservative.

Everything on the chart is true, but the Trumpsters will attack the messenger, change the subject, or use pretzel logic to show how big federal government under Trump’s control will be such a great thing.

I suspect you are correct on betrayal. I just don’t see him as a conservative at all

A thread with a little sanity. To be honest, many of the Freepers who support Trump are natural supporters. You can tell by their arrogance and rudeness. They are in their natural habitat supporting a like-minded buffoon.

However, there seem to be many who have abandoned their principles. They don't understand that the reason Cruz is so hated in Washington is because he, almost alone, has been doing the things we insist upon. Opposing funding for Planned Parenthood, repealing Obamacare, trying to prevent Obama's lawless acts, and the GOPe hates him for it.

Trump, on the other hand, will fall right into the good ole boys network and be right at home.

October 2015:

Yeah! Go Trump! He’s kicking Jeb’s butt and making the GOPe look like idiots! God bless him! Look at all of the issues he’s bringing to the fore! And the media cant touch him! I’ve never seen this before!!! Look at all of the people at his rallies!

January 2016:

How dare you vote for him! He’s a god damn liberal!!!! He’s lying about everything. You are a fake conservative and likely hate Jesus too! I cant stand you people! You are just sheep! SHEEEEEEEPPPPPP!!!!!!! Dont you know the GOPe loves him! And he’s working for Hillary! He’s not a serious candidate! Those people at the rallies are PAID ACTORS!!!

We have heard those same arguments for nearly 2 decades and that is what gave us Boehner/Ryan, McConnell and the many other REPUBLICAN sell-outs.

Many of them even ran as conservatives/Tea Party.

So, it comes down to a matter of — do you trust another Republican politician?

According to the polls, the answer seems to be 2-to-1 or greater — a resounding NO!

Ironically, many of the Dems (blue collar, etc.) have the same problem on their side — another candidate to the LEFT of Obama in Sanders or Hillary? Many seem to be giving Trump consideration.

Agreed. It is very sad to see how so many FReepers have lost their minds, have abandoned conservatism and embraced the cult of personality.

Before you elevate Cruz to Deity status read Lauren Stephen’s open letter to Mark Levin. Some uncomfortable info about Teddy that you may not want to know.

People are strong-headed when it comes to this stuff. I don't know why, really. I try to look at it as an open set of ideals throughout the process. But, you will likely change zero minds.

I see the faults in everyone running and decide which ones matter enough. I see both Cruz and Trump for what they are. As an example, I'm not even immune to the stubbornness... I have an urge to ignore negative stuff about Cruz... but I eventually read it anyway. So far, I don't see anything that would sway me... but there are things that could. I follow grandpa's logic. the only valid variables for weighing a person is what they have done... never what they have said. I apply that to Cruz and everyone else equally. For that reason alone, I have trouble understanding the Trump movement's strength.

My top 2 are immigration, 2nd Amendment... and not in that order. Trump gets a zero on both in my opinion. Some will want to blast me or argue with me about it, but again... what he says now means absolutely nothing to me, only what he has done in the past before it was critical to his campaign. Unfortunately, I don't have a voting record for Trump, all I have are his own words from the years past and the people whom he has supported... and it's not very flattering to say the least. For me, at least as things stand right now, it's Cruz or bust.

I agree with you that Mr Trump’s politics are not convincingly conservative or what we need to repair what obama’s broken ( my wording) But I have t been able to find another effective ( and eligible) candidate with the “right “ politics -— and I’m even more certain that a few of the others are Not what’s needed (Bush, Rubio amnesty etc, Christie, etc). I can’t speak for others but I might chance a vote for trump if he gets nominated - given Hillary or Bernie are definitely wrong choices. Is Santorum still running?

I've been taking a lot of flack here on FR just for being undecided.

But the sudden movement to Trumps camp by people like turn coat Trent Lott and Ted Kennedy's partner Orrin Hatch really make me wonder.

As I've said before; I gave money to Cruz in his senate race and he's made me proud ever sense. He's never wavered in his promises.

Get over yourself. Your sanctimonious piety is tiresome and contrived.
