Some news to report out of Las Vegas where Donald Trump sat down with Field & Stream magazine for an interview during the National Shooting Sports Foundationâs annual SHOT Show.
First up, the GOP front-runner came out against letting states control public lands now run by the federal government saying, âI donât like the idea because I want to keep the lands great, and you donât know what the state is going to do."

If it can’t be Cruz I hope he gets someone like a retired general ! Allen West would be great not a general but very knowledgeable military background!!!
My guess is that he would go for Colin Powell before Alan West.
It fits better with his deal making persona.
You seem to be one of the few who can understand Trump’s logic on this. I agree with him wholeheartedly.
“Do you think an idiot state like Illinois wouldnât sell any land given to them to give more to the government employees? New Mexico? Washington state ? Oregon?”
Exactly! Not only that, we’d most likely wind up with a lot of “Freddie Gray”, “Che Guevara” National Parks and other un-American travesties. It’s amazing how shortsighted some people can be.
LOL I can just imagine the Freddie Gray National Monument next to friggin Ft, McHenry in Balto on Barack Obama Blvd.
Actually state and local governments can’t be trusted either. Look at the situation in Flint, Michigan. Look at the New Jersey bridge scandal involving Chris Christie. Look at the road scandals in almost every state.
If the state of Arizona had owned the Grand Canyon after statehood in the early 20th century, there would probably be expensive villas and high rise condo’s lining the rim today instead of a mostly pristine wilderness. Look at Niagara Falls for what state control and private enterprise without restrictions does to lands. Another example, the offshore coastal barrier islands of the east coast. Developers pushed state legislators to spend millions building bridges to those islands. States and local politicians then took thousands in political donations to look the other way while developers ruined those islands by constructing homes and condos on the ocean, often in front of the natural protective dune barriers. Today, government continues to subsidize this activity by declaring disasters and providing federal and state taxpayer financial support to the owners of damaged and destroyed buildings. Not to mention the millions of taxpayer money spent annually on seawalls and beach restoration projects trying to hold back the natural forces of wind and water.
Sorry, I don’t trust the western states to administer millions of acres of public land wisely any more than the federal government.
At least he is consistent. He believes everything in the country belongs to the government, and the government is free to do whatever it wants with all property and individuals.
The best people know how to negotiate with other people. There’s some land — some, not all — here in Nevada that needs to be given back to the state.
I totally agree. Hopefully the western state representatives will be able to enlighten Trump.
“If they wanted a conservative, they’d vote for one.”
Welp, that about sums it up.
Thanks for my new tagline!
That’s my BIGGEST concern about Trump.
He obviously doesn’t understand the constitution. He acts like he’s never even read it. And chances are, he hasn’t.
I think it is a legitimate concern. Trump has not been involved in constitutional issues and political matters. Trump has been a businessman, so I don’t expect him to necessarily understand the constitutional limits of the federal government. BUT, I DO expect him to LEARN these limitations.
I think of Trump as the first shot over the bow. I believe he is the one, at this point in time, to skewer Clinton and the Left. But I also I feel like there MUST be Presidents that follow Trump who WILL better understand the Constitution and the need to cut the feds down to it’s constitutional size (a very BIG job indeed). That is why IMO, who Trump chooses as VP is so very important.
