It's time to unite.
Trump-Cruz in 2016.
Yet here is the headline from the New York Times.
Donald Trump or Ted Cruz? Republicans Argue Over Who Is Greater Threat
The story reads in part:
snip
Say again? "The Republicans who dominate the right-leaning magazines, journals and political groups can live with Mr. Cruz..."
Speaking for myself - I can more than "live with" Ted Cruz. In fact, if Donald Trump wins this nomination, I believe Ted Cruz should be to Trump as George H.W. Bush was to Reagan or Lyndon Johnson was to John F. Kennedy - the runner-up whose base of support is so big and critical to victory that the second spot on the ticket is a political necessity. I'm a supporter - and proudly so - of Donald Trump. And call me crazy, but I believe what the Times describes as a "conservative manifesto" isn't. And I say this with the greatest of respect to the signers, many of who are friends and are the real deal as conservatives.

As V.P. Cruz should pick the Supreme Court nominees. I don’t trust Trump. Will Trump let him? I doubt it.
I’ve thought that the GOPe could more easily accept Cruz because they know know to control him, just as they’ve done throughout his short Senate career. They can’t stop him from going to voters directly and raising money and building an organization, but even if he should become President, they know how to ringfence him. Even assuming the Republicans hold onto a majority in both houses of Congress, it’s two years til the midterms and historically the party in the WH has a hard time holding onto both houses. Once the Democrats get back in control of one house, Cruz is blocked.
Trump, on the other hand, is a wild card and they know he will control the agenda even if he doesn’t have a majority in Congress. For one thing, he will wheel and deal to get what he wants, and for another, he will embarass and humiliate them to the point they’ll soil themselves over losing their seat.
Saving for historical reference. I better print it, too.
You’re correct. Very few will read the article in its entirety, and that’s a shame. I’ve never read a better summation of what got us to where we are.
Given that Trump has finally come out and made HIS arguments that Cruz is ‘ineligible ‘ for POTUS (which means VP too) and ‘he is a real nasty guy who is rightfully hated in the Senate for not working with them’, this too often repeated silliness should end yesterday.
Trump says as POTUS he wants to make deals with Dems and pass laws and that Cruz is the opposite, WTF would he want Cruz as VP then?
This is retarded.
Screw that.
Imagine Cruz shilling for Trump. He’d have to abandon virtually every principle he’s got.
There are way more qualified people in this country that could be a great VP. Leaders.
Do you live in Colorado?
It may be impossible now, but I think a Trump/Cruz team would be unstoppable. Normally the VP is pretty meaningless, but I think in this case it would reassure all conservatives that Trump means what he says. It would also cut off at the knees the yapping mice Huckabee and Santorum who have recently praised Trump as a way of attacking Cruz.
Both guys started as quasi-allies - for them to unite now would be to demonstrate that the kerfluffle of the last month was only that. I think it would really help to unite our side like never before.
And, as others have said, Cruz is young, and given the Republican tradition of primogeniture, this would put him in the driver’s seat for the future.
I can dream, can’t I?
Name some.
Use your head and name your own instead of sucking Ted’s toes. I have my favorite.
That’s an unstoppable ticket and draws in the skeptical conservative base. Ideologically they are closer than many give credit. Rumsfeld wrote in his recent book that “A”s hire “A”s so this would not be inconsistent for Trump. Trump is playing to win and Cruz is the only thing in his way so his tactics are somewhat understandable.
I’d rather see Cruz as AG.
Trump seems to be able to bury the hatchet and move on quickly when he sees it necessary. Note the spat with Nikki Haley.
President Cruz shouldn’t let Trump anywhere near the White House. He mustn’t allow even a hint of crony corruption to taint his administration.
I see quite a few of them are still fantasizing that "Cruz will be Trump's VP", although the "vote for Trump and you'll get Cruz on SCOTUS" has become a more popular talking point on this board. In real life, I probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than the likelihood of Trump tapping Cruz to be his running mate OR Supreme Court appointee. Trump, if nominated, will surround himself with yes-men who kiss his butt and promote his policies. Cruz isn't in that category.

“Once the Democrats get back in control of one house, Cruz is blocked.”
Funny how that works. Dems can block a Republican Prez controlling one house, but Repubs can’t seem to block a Dem Prez if they control both houses, much less one.
