Trump nevertheless offers a valuable warning for the Republican party. If responsible men irresponsibly ignore an issue as important as immigration, it will be taken up by the reckless. If they cannot explain their Beltway maneuvers - worse, if their maneuvering is indefensible - they will be rejected by their own voters. If they cannot advance a compelling working-class agenda, the legitimate anxieties and discontents of blue-collar voters will be exploited by demagogues. We sympathize with many of the complaints of Trump supporters about the GOP, but that doesn't make the mogul any less flawed a vessel for them.
Some conservatives have made it their business to make excuses for Trump and duly get pats on the head from him. Count us out. Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot in behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as the Donald himself.

Take particular note of this item in the article: The Tea Party appears to be clinging to populism and discarding conservatism. Lunging for the power, as it were, while ignoring the principle.
This isn’t about getting rid of Trump, this is about ridding the GOP of all of US!

Thanks!
Time to Macy these scumbags!
One of the best lines ever...IMHO, of course.
I have sent that line to a couple of local merchants when they have trashed Trump. One got back to me that I was trying to deny his first amendment rights. I said that I was using my first amendment and will be using my $'s to support Trump not Trump haters. His boutique business is in trouble without pissing off a large % of potential customers.

Um, where were they in January 2008 when radical Progressive John McCain started leading the field? Funny how these so-called 'conservatives' weren't alarmed then. It's funny how people who gladly supported the liberal policies or agendas of Bush I, Dole, Bush II, McCain, and Romney suddenly try to sound like ideological purists. It's especially funny because their idea of a perfect antidote to Trump's "menace to American conservatism" is probably Jeb Bush.

Just watched Brent Bozell and he was absolutely unhinged! Like someone else asked: Where were they in ‘08?

So the guy who has been been flipping parties for decades, and making heavy contributions to Democrats, is the "real" Republican? Seriously?
Trump is a populist -- the party labels actually don't mean much to him. The people often referred to here as the "GOP-E" may not be conservatives, but they've certainly got a better claim to being Republicans than Trump does.

If I were on my Computer and not my mobile I would post my laughing Muttley GIF. Now the only thing they need to go is replace or just remove Grim Meegyn from next week’s debate.

I think that was around the time I let my subscription lapse. Maybe earlier.
So who are the mushy middle at National Republican supporting? I doubt they would get behind Ted Cruz. He doesn’t “reach across the aisle” like McCain. And, he got Mitch McConnell upset by calling him a liar. Turtle didn’t come out of his shell for a week. I remember NR being very laudatory towards Boehner and McConnell.

Look, the issue with those people is that the first thing they're interested in is winning the election. So they almost always gravitate to the candidate they see as the most electable. Most of them would agree that they'd personally prefer a more conservative candidate, but they've become defeatist and no longer believe a strong conservative can win. So, they push for the more moderate candidates in the primaries even though they don't always prefer those policies..
For the most part, they're not evil or bad. They just think too "strategically: most of the time.

Because enforcing the immigration laws and deporting illegals is so reckless. LOL!

They don’t get it. It’s not about conservativism, it’s about Americanism.
