Donal Trump says he will force Apple to build its "computers and things" in the United States

Trump told the audience at Liberty University that to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States he would make Apple "build their damn computers and things in this country." While this isn't a bad idea, or even the first time it has been suggested, Trump didn't offer any specifics on how he would force Apple to abruptly change its manufacturing.

"Please, we have such amazing people in this country: smart, sharp, energetic, they're amazing," Trump said. 'I was saying make America great again, and I actually think we can say now, and I really believe this, we're gonna get things coming... we're gonna get Apple to start building their damn computers and things in this country, instead of in other countries."

There's currently no legal reason as to why Apple would have to bring all of its manufacturing stateside under a Trump presidency, although factors like incentives and tax breaks for the company could be offered. Nevertheless, Trump didn't detail his plans for forcing Apple to manufacture in the United States at all.

I never said I was willing to watch America bleed out and die. Don’t put words into my mouth.

That is exactly what is happening. You know it. The USA lost 12 million manufacturing jobs since 2003. That is 55,000 factories closed. That is about the manufacturing base of Spain, lost every 10 years. How long can that go on?

You either stop the rape or turn your head and walk on. Which is it?

Why are you posting Cruz attacks on a thread about Trump? Cruz wasn’t even mentioned in the article. Go troll some other site.

How many Americans even knew Apple was a Chinese company? The reason I buy Samsung.

Yes but what excuse does Apple have using little Chinese child or prison labor fingers to then sell the output at $800?

Bingo. The US has to meet product and labor standards. China has none.

Is that sort of like the New Balance claims? They build 10 percent of their runners in the US so they can say they are US made.

Nope. To use the "US Made" label, you need to have a majority of it actually made in the U.S.A. According to the FTC:

Made in USA means that "all or virtually all" the product has been made in America. That is, all significant parts, processing, and labor that go into the product must be of U.S. origin. Products should not contain any - or should contain only negligible - foreign content.

Anti-Apple bigots spread the lie about Apple making everything in China, when the reality is that it is one of the few American tech companies making computer products in America. Almost all other American computer companies manufacture their products in China. Apple does so with some mobile devices, but even then a lot of the content is manufactured in America (chips, glass, etc.) One would do well to go after HP, Lenovo, Microsoft and others who do little manufacturing here.

Cruz attacks on a thread about Trump?

Your Cruz blindness made you skip past all the attacks on Trump by Cruz supporters. Get a clue.

Huh? Yours was the first post on this thread that even mentioned Cruz.. The article had nothing to do with Cruz. Why would you even bring Cruz up when he has nothing to do with the article, and no one has made any relevant comments?

Thanks for the info. Why did Jobs spend so much energy defending assemblies in China instead saying most is made in the US?

It is sort of like assembling a lego toy, only you will be assembling the very same toy hour after hour day after day using the sequence of movements someone has designed for you.

Designing and fabricating the chips and making the software is hard. Sticking them together not so much.

He also threw in getting department store employees to say “Merry Christmas.”

I’m holding out hope that he will make MacDonald’s put lettuce and tomato on the Big Mac.

Why did Jobs spend so much energy defending assemblies in China instead saying most is made in the US?

This is way back when Jobs was alive, Obama ran into him at some conference or similar meet. Obama asked Jobs why they were making stuff in China (along with other companies) and what would it take to bring those jobs back. Jobs patiently explained the case to Obama (as one would to a child). China has the infrastructure setup whereby large factories are clustered together with dormitories for workers, and rail and shipping, and parts suppliers. They can pull together thousands of workers at a moment's notice if required. That infrastructure does not exist in the States; it did in a bygone area with company towns. Jobs told Obama that it would be super expensive to set up that sort of infrastructure in the States, and the federal government impedes that with bureaucracy, taxes, and inane laws.

Apple under Tim Cook has made a huge investment in building computers here in the states, locating in areas with a large pool of tech workers near universities and shipping points. Hence, the SF Bay Area in northern California, Austin Texas, and a few other states (newest in Arizona). It has cost them many hundreds of millions versus the savings if made in China. It was mostly the high-end Mac desktops at first, with other Macs like the iMac saying "Assembled in the USA", but then shifted to being made here within the last few years. Say what you will about Tim Cook, he brought manufacturing back to the USA. Few other tech companies are doing so.
