Donal Trump says he will force Apple to build its "computers and things" in the United States

Trump told the audience at Liberty University that to bring manufacturing jobs back to the United States he would make Apple "build their damn computers and things in this country." While this isn't a bad idea, or even the first time it has been suggested, Trump didn't offer any specifics on how he would force Apple to abruptly change its manufacturing.

"Please, we have such amazing people in this country: smart, sharp, energetic, they're amazing," Trump said. 'I was saying make America great again, and I actually think we can say now, and I really believe this, we're gonna get things coming... we're gonna get Apple to start building their damn computers and things in this country, instead of in other countries."

There's currently no legal reason as to why Apple would have to bring all of its manufacturing stateside under a Trump presidency, although factors like incentives and tax breaks for the company could be offered. Nevertheless, Trump didn't detail his plans for forcing Apple to manufacture in the United States at all.

Yeah, I still think he could probably manage the economy and get the country back on track better than any of the other tools.

You do that with limited government, following the constitution and liberty.

More top down management won’t work.

That’s funny. He really must not tweet himself. “I have chumps do that for me, on their Zune doohickeys.”

The thing about the China slave labor camps, is that those labors costs are why there is no such thing as a free market globally. When once country can set the wages artificially low, the market is not setting rates based on skills.

Of course the US has the opposite probably with minimum wage and unions.

Where are Mr. Trump’s steel mills, car manufacturers, textile mills, computer parts producers? Where are his Americans first policies when hiring? Where are his veterans preferential hiring policies? What research program to help wounded vets did he give even 1% of his vast wealth to? Which Christian organization does he tithe to? It’s been claimed that he uses e-verify for all of his businesses, but I’ve been unable to confirm even that.

What ever happened to that massive building project he had planned for New Orleans?

Who said anything about articles?

I was talking about your incessant spamming.

I just wish you could shut your own pie hole for a day, to use your phrase.

The Constitutional role of the President does NOT involved running the economy!

I get the feeling a lot of Trump's supporters are past caring about that, or the unintended consequences letting him do it anyway.

Actually, he did say how he’d do it the other day. He said that he’d make the import taxes so high for products to come into the country that they’d give in. Maybe he’d do better to say he’d make the taxes so low they’d want to come back, instead. He wants to punish them for leaving...sounds a lot like Obama.

LOL. You stop, I'll stop.

Trump and Trumpbots dish it out but whine like little girls when anyone says something less than adoring of the New York jerk.

Devil is in the details. So how does Trump propose to make this “force” happen? Carrot or Stick?

All he has to do, is call someone at Apple. Even their janitors know Apple builds it's computers in the U.S.A., practically the only large computer maker that does so. Once Trump calls and finds out, he'll claim he got it done.

Apple has built computers and chips at factories in California and Texas. As well as many other components throughout America. Trump would do well to investigate HP, Microsoft, and other tech companies who build in China.

Build Apple things here?

Apple does build things here. One of the few tech giants who remain to do so. They build computers and chips mostly in California and Texas. Not to mention many components are built by Apple here in the U.S.A. Trump should cast his eye at Microsoft and other "American" companies who solely build in China.

You make an excellent point.

I was trying to articulate the disconnect between Trump’s promises and the reality of the limitations of the office of the Presidency. Lots of promises to the masses and then failing to deliver and finally blaming someone else is a tactic of the left.

Exercise caution all who enter in.

It’s not good having too much core technological skills vested overseas. If something like a war breaks out with China, we would be screwed. To the extent possible, technology jobs should remain stateside.

With that said, Trump never indicated that he’d go around Congress to do anything. The assumption is that unlike the current occupant of the White House, Trump will work with the Republicans to pass his agenda.
