Ted Cruz's fmr. professor says Cruz is a hypocrite on the Constitution VIDEO

Thursday following FBN's broadcast of the Republican presidential debate, Harvard constitutional law professor Laurence Tribe attacked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 97%, one of the participants in last night debate, for his stated on reasoning for his eligibility to run for president of the United States.

According to Tribe, Cruz applies a double standard to his interpretation of the Constitution, to which he deemed Cruz to be a "constitutional opportunist" and a "hypocrite."

"I've done a lot of historical research on it, and so have a lot of other people, and the best evidence seems to be that what they meant in 1788 was something more than just citizen from birth," he said. "They actually meant a citizen whose birth was sort of natural, not in a biological sense but in the sense of connection to the land. The idea was, that it was something that Congress couldn't change, unlike the naturalization process, which Congress has monkeyed around with all the time. I mean, for example, in 1934, the first time it said, you can be a citizen who doesn't need to get naturalized as long as your mom was an American citizen. And that's ultimately the basis on which Cruz has to rely.

The funny thing is, that the kind of guy Cruz is, he's always been this way. When he was my student he was this way. He's always said the Constitution always means the same thing that it meant when it was adopted. That's why he made this funny joke to Trump, you know, saying, the Constitution didn't change since last September. Well, he thinks it didn't change since 1788 when it comes to gays and, you know, women and other things. But when it comes to his own ambition, he's suddenly becomes what he accuses me of being, and it's a pretty true accusation, a judicial activist. That's not the guy he is normally."

"He's being a constitutional opportunist, a hypocrite," Tribe continued. "It's sad, because he makes light of it, but it is a genuine open question, and there's no way of getting around it. Like if he's the nominee, it won the be hard to imagine some secretary of state somewhere simply refusing to put him on the ballot on the ground that that secretary of state is also an originalist and thinks, if you weren't born on the land of the United States, then you just can't run. At that point, somebody would have to sue them, whether it's Ted Cruz himself as the nominee, if that's what we've got, or the Republican National Committee. There's no way to avoid an issue like that going to the Supreme Court. And the irony is, the liberals on the court, assuming they all voted according to principle, as opposed to politics. It isn't always that way, the liberals on the court, the activists would go with Cruz, and the originalists if they were true to their position like Scalia, would vote against him."

Laurence Tribe was Al Gore’s lawyer when Gore tried to turn the Florida state election to be Gore’s and Tribe went to the Supreme Court to try to get Bush removed and Gore to win.

Ted Cruz was the lawyer who went to the Supreme Court on Bush’s side. Ted Cruz won and Laurence Tribe LOST. Tribe would like nothing better than to stomp on Cruz for besting him at the Supreme Court.

He’s a citizen, but NOT eligible to run for the presidency and neither is Rubio, nor was Jindal and Haley can’t be chosen for VEEP, because SHE isn’t an NBC either.

And wee barry isn’t one either and is pResident illegally!>>>>
thanks i thot his dad was naturalized at that point — that makes it more interesting. those others because i assume their parents where not citizens when they were born. I wish ther could be a more civil version of some of the cruz vtrump posts.

Thanks for that article you posted.

Half century ago, when they taught US History. That is what we learned.

To qualify for president you needed to be born here of citizen parents, who were citizens at the time of your birth.

He has assumed he has been an American citizen his entire life (well, when he was old enough to know what it meant).

Ted Cruz was never naturalized.

So, he is either a natural born citizen, or he is a foreigner. If he is a foreigner, he has served illegally in the United States Senate. He has practiced law illegally before the USSC and several other venues.

I’m still waiting on the Cruz bashers to bring me some documented evidence that Cruz took actions knowing he was a Canadian Citizen. When he learned a few years back that he held Canadian citizenship because he was born there while his mother was there, he renounced his Canadian citizenship. He did not want to be identified as a Canadian Citizen, and never had.

Again, he never naturalized. He has always conducted himself as if he is a natural born citizen. If you find evidence, please post it.

I wish so as well. I post FACTS. Then some Cruz supporter attacks me, I attack back, or laugh in their face. Oh well......

In order to be a NBC, the child has to have BOTH PARENTS ( unless said child is a bastard )be AMERICAN CITIZENS; either born that was of naturalized, at the time of said child's birth.

Same reason Barack did with even more questions. The globalists want to dissolve our nation as a sovereign entity, and the more of these borderline cases they can push through, within a couple of decades nobody will think twice when a Murdock type guy takes over the Presidency.

Anyhow, even Christ said we could suss out some things from the ground, using the example of the weather. If the forces are in place and you know what they typically do, then they will probably do it this time around. If you see God’s ducks in a row, listen for the shot because He is a “whosoever will” God.

And I see some gospel ducks lining up. Facebook happens to be a wonderful place to notice this. I can see sincerity and I can see Christian B.S. And I can interact with both and I learn things too.

Here’s my bet. Cruz stays in Senate. Trump goes on to presidency, with some of his actions as a sign that Christians get favored, but perhaps not as clear outward behavior.

Court appointments come up. Trump by now has his ears open to Cruz, he has said he wants Thomas-like justices. Cruz is glad to get 3/4 of a loaf here, and fights like mad to get such justices through.

The Bork amendment issue arises when Trump finds himself suddenly unable to implement something the USSC has nixed. Out comes the bully pulpit and you can hear the thunder and lightning from here. Things start to move... and Bork amendment is put in place.

Now things get interesting! People start to see the pressure point for reforms is the Congress. People start to get involved politically here.

At the same time, the Lord begins to move in evangelism once more. The faith base of We The People grows.

The result: almost giddy good news, until once more someone oversteps... like the adage goes, God has no grandchildren. But it could be a generation’s worth of respite.

“He’s a citizen, but NOT eligible to run for the presidency...”

You would be wrong. Cruz was never naturalized. so, he is either a natural born citizen or he is a foreigner. There is no in-between.

You are wrong!

Cruz WAS a an AMERICAN CITIZEN at birth; however,NOT an NBC! His mother was an American citizen and so he didn't need to be "naturalized".

You’re agonizing under some notion of “wrong” and “right.” I admit I am being Machiavellian in view here... what’s going to GO DOWN. Which will leave you smarting, probably. Unless Cruz has an attitude adjustment.

A lot of people don’t like Cruz for some reason.

Read a column the other day that said no one in the Senate can stand him. In college his debate teammates had a revolt against him when he wanted to be president of the debate team.

Hmmm

When Cruz was in high school, he went to another country and got an American Passport at that time. He is a natural born citizen with a regular passport - he was not naturalized so he is an American natural born citizen.

No Ted’s dad was a naturalized Canadian at the time of his birth. He became an American in 2005.

So there are:
1. Naturalized Citizens,
2. Citizens
3. Natural Born Citizens.

Naturalized Citizens = People who are citizens of another country and apply for citizenship to the US. They have to go through the process of naturalization to gain citizenship.

Citizen = ?????

Natural Born Citizens = A person born to parent(s) who are US Citizens and are automatically citizens at birth.

So, where is “Citizen” defined?

There is no SCOTUS decision equating natural born citizenship with citizenship at birth, and absent that you’re just making stuff up.

The Constitution gave Congress the authority to create laws for Naturalization. If a law enacted by Congress gave you citizenship were as without it you wouldn’t have it, you were naturalized. The laws enacted by Congress define the process of naturalization and are not limited to the process set forth for immigrants.

OK. I follow that. I am not aware of any law passed by Congress granting him citizenship after he was born.

Cruz is either a NBC or he is a foreigner. He has never been naturalized. Please correct me if I am wrong about his naturalization.
