Merkel ally threatens legal action over refugee policy

A prominent ally of Germany's Angela Merkel has threatened to take her government to court over its open door refugee policy as political pressure grows for the chancellor to reduce the number of new arrivals.

Bavarian state premier Horst Seehofer said he would send the federal government a written request within the next two weeks to restore "orderly conditions" at the nation's borders, through which one million migrants and refugees passed last year alone.

"If it doesn't follow, the state government will have no other choice but to file a suit at the Federal Constitutional Court," Seehofer told Der Spiegel magazine on Saturday.

Seehofer has issued a series of ultimatums to Merkel in recent months to press her into taking immediate action to limit the influx of migrants, only to back down at the last minute.

His comments reflect growing doubt among Germans about Merkel's "we can do this" mantra in the face of Europe's biggest migrant crisis since World War Two, especially since sexual assaults in Cologne on New Year's Eve were blamed on migrants.

The CSU, which Seehofer heads, is technically a different party than the CDU which spawned Merkel.

Seehofer's ultimate "trump" card is an outright alliance with AfD, which may occur anyway.

He's already hosted Viktor Orban twice to Munich "receptions".

Uh oh! When the Germans start clamoring for “order” you know the proverbial stuff is about to hit the fan.

???
An ally of hers said this?
Color me skeptical, it might be a cynical ploy to try and get in front of the issue and pretend to be doing something about it.

US liberals are immature and crazy, but Merk and her regime appear to be a certain intentional kind of wicked crazy. She’s either being paid under the table big time or possessed by Satan.

Signs of unrest are showing up on the liberal forums, they’ve started to see that this mess will hurt them politically.

If my count is correct, CSU has 67 seats. Even without them, the CDU/SPD would have 436 seats out of 630, so it wouldn’t bring the center-left government down. They’d have to get about half of the CDU to break ranks to bring Merkel down.

Or perhaps he was at one time an ally who is now a former ally.

"Even without them, the CDU/SPD would have 436 seats out of 630"

If CSU/Bavaria validates AfD that will sap enormous support from CDU.

Even many on the left in SPD would defect for a nativist message in this atmosphere.

Give it one national election, see what happens.

Forget legal action to stop the Muslim invasion.

What Germany needs right now is direct action.

Ding ding. It’s just more kabuki designed to calm indigenous Germans until things are too far gone to fix.

Merkel would sooner have her troopers fire on German citizens before she did anything to stop the refugee flood.

Now, here's the strange thing: Actually Merkel is a Lutheran from East Germany. Her whole family were religious resisters against Communism.

So, unsettling as it may be, she is neither a leftist nor a secularist. She has explicitly (and under unforced circumstances) stated that the Christian concept of the human person is the essential foundation for human dignity: note that, not the "Enlightenment" concept, not the merely "Western" concept, but the "Christian" concept.

Not leftist, not secularist, nor is she stupid. It is rather amazing to me to see her flailing around now, sounding compromised, confused and clueless when, really, she should know better.

Germany has had a mutually beneficial relationship for decades with Turkish "guest workers" who were respectable, law-abiding, working people. The German workforce depends on the 1st and 2nd generation descendants of these Turkish Gastarbeiter. Merkel has perhaps had trouble realizing that this Syrian/Iraqi Hijrah-Jihad is a whole 'nother thing.

The big, BIG underlying problem, is that German's birth rate and fertility rate have been cratered for 40+ years. They made the world's most obvious and stupid existential blunder: failure to procreate. They have very few young Germans. They are perhaps the first nation --- but will not be the last --- to commit suicide by contraception.

They have foolishly thought they could build a German future without Germans.

Look up the word “frump” in any dictionary. You’ll see Frau Merkel’s photo posted as the example.

Not former stasi. Not, at least, from what I've seen so far. She's one of the few of her generation, in her position (politically active) who weren't. She was passed by for top university positions, because of it.

I have seen articles (which used words like "suspected," "presumed," "possibly," "informant who chooses not to be named," etc.) which tried to tie her to the Stasi, but my own hunch is that those who tried unsuccessfully to recruit her, are now trying to defame her.

Not that I (or any of us) have full information about activities which were, by definition, covert and included a lot of convoluted counter-sounter-sounter agentry.

However this article is interesting and as believable as any.

From my anecdotal exchanges with my Bavarian neighbors, I can confirm that the mood shift is continuing, even accelerating, with more and more Germans becoming upset over the refugee situation. I would say that the dichotomy between men and women continues, that is women are far more tolerant of Merkel's refugee policy than are men.

I was quite surprised to hear a degree of outrage because the press had suppressed much of the news from Cologne and from neighboring northern German cities. Even in our little Bavarian villages problems have developed with Muslims being banned from certain restaurants because they have caused disruptions. There've been incidents all around the area. The attitude expressed was that the people are being manipulated by the government and the press

I have long believed that the press in Germany is entirely too influential and politically correct, hence German attitudes about America mirror almost perfectly the left ranges of the American Democrat party. So to hear these remarks was both surprising and encouraging.

There is even a sense that political correctness is taking ominous form as people expressed fears that they must be very circumspect in their language or face unspecified consequences.

Judging from her actions, there might be something to it.
The old Soviet empire saw muslims as...tools to be used against the west.
