The exchange between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump on “NY values†was one of the highlights of last night’s debate.
While Cruz clearly was referring to liberalism, he used a phrase that left him open to Trump’s counterattack invoking 9/11:
he media is thrilled with Trump’s response. Of course, much of that media is in or from NY City. I expressed last night that I wasn’t sure that the issue would play in Trump’s favor outside NY.
I was born in NYC, spent my early childhood there, grew up in and returned to the NYC suburbs after law school until moving to Rhode Island in 1993. And since 2008 have lived (originally part time now full time) in Ithaca.
I understand what Cruz was referring to. And it has nothing to do with knocking the heroism of NY police and firemen, or how New Yorkers reacted under attack. It has everything to do with political, economic and social outlooks which are not accepted in the Republican Party in general much less among conservatives.
The Cruz campaign apparently thinks this is a fight it needs to have, via Washington Examiner:

“All” Trump did was play the equivalent of the Race Card. Cruz laid out EXACTLY what New York Values are. Trump knew he couldn’t win the argument on substance because of the Russert interview. So what did Trump do? He basically said, you’re not attacking me because I’m a liberal in disguise, you’re attacking me because I’m a New Yorker.
It was the Race Card...Republican Style and it was planned by Trump. So if you buy this crap Trump is selling, the next time you get po’ed at a lib trying to say people disagree with them because of their color, you have nothing to stand on since you encourage this garbage.
Nothing Cruz said had ANYTHING to do about 9/11 or the NYPD or the FD. And you either know that or you’re a liberal troll who’s hidden in the shadows. There is no middle ground on this.
I guess we’ll never be able to talk about the Washington Cartel anymore because Trump will bring up the Pentagon attack. And we probably won’t be able to talk about Hollywood’s war on America because Trump will bring up the San Benadino attacks.

They elected Hillary and Schumer as their Senators! If the vote is looked at New York City did this, not up state New York, just New York City.

No knock on Trump, but Cruz is probably in the top 5% of legal scholars in this country so he probably knows whether he is qualified to be President.

If Cruz is the top 5% of legal scholars, it seems odd to me that he did not “discover” that he was a Canadian citizen until 2013.

We are to believe that Ted Cruz, brilliant legal mind, has been wandering around providing his Canadian birth certificate as proof of identity, for his whole life and yet it never flickered in his mind that he was a Canadian? He said he learned he was a dual citizen in “The Dallas Morning News”

New York City to me politically is Hillary Clinton, Bella Abzug, Anthony Wiener, Madeline not so Bright, Bloomberg and Trump. All politicians from that part of the State are progressives, liberals, socialists, communists or budding tyrants. Someone tell me the last pol from that place who was conservative, smaller government, strict Constitutionalist...any?

The response to 9-11 was not a NY value, it was a rare occaision when NYers shared American values.

The sting of Trumps devastating response to Trump lingers because it caused Cruz to suffer perhaps the most embarrassing moment of any debate.
Cruz walked into it like a fool. I am amazed that he chose the NY Values tactic to neutralize Trump. It was lame foolish and easily defended.
Trump again demonstrated why he appears as a man among children with his powerful retort that left Cruz no option but to look at Donald, smile and APPLAUD!
CRUZ GOT SCHLONGED!
