Cruz "insulted a lot of people," Trump said. "I've had more calls on that statement that Ted made. New York is a great place, it's got great people, it's got loving people, wonderful people. When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York."
"[T]wo one hundred and ten story buildings come crashing down. I saw them come down. Thousands of people killed, and the clean up started the next day and it was the most horrific cleanup in the history of doing this and in construction," Trump said.
"I was down there. And I've never seen anything like it. And the people in New York fought and fought and fought and we saw more death and even the smell of death, nobody understood it. And it was with us for months, the smell, the air. And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers. And I have to tell you that was a really insulting statement that Ted made."
Cruz did not offer a response to Trump.

Totally agree. I spent most of my adult life in Boston and now in New York. In both places, there are plenty of conservatives. Yes, we are outnumbered but not all is lost. People who consider themselves liberal can be won over. I was one of them. I became conservative because of Ronald Reagan - who by the way, carried both Massachusetts and New York in both 1980 and 1984.
Since coming to New York, I have met some really good people. It's a bustling, vibrant place. I don't know what Cruz means by "New York Values". Most people there are hard working. Speaking of which, I need to get to bed as I need to be on a train to get there early in the morning!
I generally like Cruz but he showed me tonight he's not ready to lead a nation. He's only 44 so maybe he will mature over time.

I don't know, but what does that have to do with anything? Cruz made it clear he was talking about big northeastern urban values. He never mentioned 9-11, or policemen or firefighters.
Trump was cheap and tacky to use 9-11 as a drama hook.
