Cruz "insulted a lot of people," Trump said. "I've had more calls on that statement that Ted made. New York is a great place, it's got great people, it's got loving people, wonderful people. When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York."
"[T]wo one hundred and ten story buildings come crashing down. I saw them come down. Thousands of people killed, and the clean up started the next day and it was the most horrific cleanup in the history of doing this and in construction," Trump said.
"I was down there. And I've never seen anything like it. And the people in New York fought and fought and fought and we saw more death and even the smell of death, nobody understood it. And it was with us for months, the smell, the air. And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers. And I have to tell you that was a really insulting statement that Ted made."
Cruz did not offer a response to Trump.

I will not participate, no way I would ever participate on a thread this thi... oh snap
Ted showing youth and inexperience...
In the eyes of the beholder.
New York, like San Francisco and Los Angeles, is knows for its liberalism. And it is peddling that garbage to the rest of us. There are conservatives there, but they are LOSING the elections because they are a minority, and not the kind of minority liberals give a rip about.
Cruz was amazing tonight. Just fantastic.
Probably not while running for office.
Manhattan is a liberal nest. Let’s try to keep it real for cripes sake.
Trump was ready with his prepared remarks stretching the connection with Cruz’s statement.
Exactly. Trump will win New York city. Maybe not even NY State.
When someone names a person to disprove my thesis, like Trump did with William F. Buckley, which was a LONG time ago, I usually come back with “name me another”. The fact is that New York City just elected a Communist as Mayor. Sure, there are a lot of great people in New York City, but electing a Communist tells me you don’t have the same values that I have.
odd how a VIDEO of this interchange has already been posted as an ARTICLE
someone has butthurt!!..and its Ina Ted Cruz or ME!!!
Dons comments were meant as an emotional Monkeywrench..and throwing THOSE around he does VERY VERY well.
You folks really do not understand deep blue states.
Is it ok if I support Trump? Can I stay? Let me know, ok teg_76. I’m hoping it’s ok with you.
I’d say that post goes way too far.
Conservatives will never again win NY period. I do t even know why we feel that even trying would make a lick of difference. Trump does hold their values, he’s been a liberal his entire life....birds of a feather
Trump wins the whole country with that statement PERIOD!
I’m old enough to remember when deep blue New York State went for Reagan. Trump might just - might - do it again. If not his first term, maybe his second. He certainly has more cross-over appeal than Cruz.
Holy crap,
Have the de Blasio supporters invaded FR with their NYC values?
I sure cant agree with them.
Has conservatism turned upside down to accommodate Trump?
This thread theme is exactly the argument that Chris Matthews made tonight on his show.
Trumps.
That NYC values is American’s values/
Trump won nothing. Everyone with an ounce of sense knows exactly what Cruz meant. spin it any way you want newbie.
And Ted Cuz shut down his attack on Cruz’ birth as well as the filing issue. It’s a draw between the two.
The only other one I can think of is Jim Buckley, and he lasted only one term.
Then, there’s the old New York complaint about Nixon: “I can’t IMAGINE how he won. I don’t know a single New Yorker who voted for him.”
Claiming even two in 8 million is a knock-out punch? Pulleeeze.
