Donald Trump Shuts Down Ted Cruz’s Criticism Of His ‘New York Values’ [VIDEO]
dailycaller.com ^ | January 14

Posted on 01/14/2016 7:59:52 PM PST by Helicondelta

Cruz "insulted a lot of people," Trump said. "I've had more calls on that statement that Ted made. New York is a great place, it's got great people, it's got loving people, wonderful people. When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York."

"[T]wo one hundred and ten story buildings come crashing down. I saw them come down. Thousands of people killed, and the clean up started the next day and it was the most horrific cleanup in the history of doing this and in construction," Trump said.

"I was down there. And I've never seen anything like it. And the people in New York fought and fought and fought and we saw more death and even the smell of death, nobody understood it. And it was with us for months, the smell, the air. And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers. And I have to tell you that was a really insulting statement that Ted made."

Cruz did not offer a response to Trump.

The only Trump is forgiven is if this lawsuit indeed clears up the matter - which is a manufactured matter or else Mitt's dad would not have been able to run and McCain would not have been able to run.

Trump is a New York slimeball, and it shows...

Well, I’ve always leaned towards Trump because of his militant approach to islam. That is my big fear for the future. But I did like Cruz’s debating skills and positions. But I’ve always had a problem with a smarmy quality that he has and his high-pitched, nasal voice. (Just as I have a real problem with Hillary’s screechy, hectoring tone.) And if a conservative like me feels that way, what about someone who wakes up closer to election time? So I’ll stick with Trump.

"A voice of sanity. I LIVED in New York in 2012. It was downright painful walking the streets on election night, hearing the cheering, etc.

Yes, they are generally citizens of Sodom, and New York is a cesspool of wickedness."

I believe you. That's always been the POV of the people on this forum...until Trump came along.

I have a friend who was born and raised in NJ; she goes into the city all the time. She hates it. And she thinks what Cruz said was funny.

“The New York values line might work well in Iowa. It did not work well on National TV.”

Definitely. On last night’s live thread I noticed that a few CA posters, not even prior NYers, were highly offended by Cruz’s remark.

Politically tone deaf, IMO. It was like when Obama dissed Middle America “bitter clingers”. Pure nastiness.

"Everyone knew he was referencing Trumps remark that no Evangelicals come from Cuba."

Evangelicals don't come from Cuba. Cuba is primarily Roman Catholic and even Catholics don't claim to be "evangelical". Evangelicals are Protestant.

“Ted showing youth and inexperience”

Which is fine. He can learn so much as Trump’s mentee/VP over the next four or eight years. THEN he’ll be ready for the #1 spot.

Buckley had a house in Connecticut. His legal residence was in Manhattan.

( quoting myself )

I just thought of something.

Ted is in kind of a pickle now. You know that today he is getting advice from handlers telling him to backtrack on the NY gaffe, maybe refine it to mean NYC or DeBlasio and Cuomo liberals, or maybe even an apology.

What happens to some folks in this thread if he apologizes or walks it back?

I just turned on the radio up here and I was right, he really stepped in a mess now. Our idiot Governor Cuomo, a lowlife scum liberal communist is jumping in, demanding an apology and the return of all donations to New Yorkers!

Cruz now really gets tested. He has to decide whether to stand firm and not apologize ( like Trump ) or cave to the leftist peanut gallery ( and look weak ). I do not envy him today.

Rush is now coming on. We'll see what he thinks.

I didn’t realize his primary residence was Manhattan. I lived not too far from him in Connecticut when I was a kid. Occasionally, we would get a glimpse of his big limo heading over the bridge to his island home.

Good. You enjoy this strange headspace of yours and those of us who really want to turn the country around can address the realities of moving a country that is only marginally aware into a better space.

America in 2016 is a country where you may need a candidate who can tap into the portion of Americans that are into celebrities and the portion of Americans that respect a successful international businessman, a candidate who captures the excitement of many but underneath it all is a shrewd cookie who loves his country and loves to win.

Agreed. It might have been better even to be more general, talk about what values have been forgotten and need to be revived and use some examples that might have by the way included politicians or particular liberals and even better from several areas.

So all of NYC was out that night and the candidates were elected by 100%? I guarantee you that while you were out feeling superior lots of NYC was mourning. When California gives up the Folsom St Fair and Boston bans the gay parades then perhaps you could point the finger at NYC but even then you would be wrong.

I get a kick out of many who proclaim Trump is not a conservative. So why are these people powerless to elect a ^true conservative^ as president? Because none of those ^conservative^ RESONATE with majority of people. Why do you think Cruz is behind Trump by double digits in 99% of polls? Only a former democrat, divorced, and with Hollywood background and transformed conservative such as Ronald Reagan can RESONATE with voters.

What exactly have the ^true conservatives^ in congress accomplished?

Obamacare scrapped?
Illegals deported?
Wall built?
Anchor babies outlawed?
National debt reduced?
Abortion restricted?
China trade deficit reduced?
Food stamp growth curbed?
Welfare growth reduced?
Fraud in Medicare & Social Security under control? (25% of Medicare payments go to fraudulent claims, and there are tens of thousands of people over age 110 still getting social security checks automatically)

If Trump can deliver any 3 of above, he is more than enough conservative for most rational people.

Trump is conservative on these issues:

Pro life since at least 2011, wanted to ban partial birth abortion as far back as 2000.
Pro Traditional marriage. ^Gay rights is not my thing.^
Pro capital punishment ^Capital punishment isn't uncivilized; murderers living is^
Hold Judges accountable
Opposes ^Common core is a disaster^ Teach citizenship, quit ^dumbing down^.
Anti education unions (2000)
For school choice
^Climate Change is a hoax^
^No Cap-and-Tax^
For drilling our own.
On Environment ^Good development enhances the environment^
Stressed the importance of a strong family & culture of life (2015)
Supports Israel
Opposes Iran deal and letting Iran obtain the bomb.
Wants to crush ISIS quickly.
Wants a military so strong no one will challenge us.
Against unbalanced trade deals that kill American jobs.
Against warrant-less government surveillance of citizens.
Is against having a high national debt. Warns that $24T is a point of no return.
Against gun control
For assault weapon ban but says the AR-15 shouldn't be considered an assault weapon.
Wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with market driven polices and increased competition among insurance companies.
Wants to increase military spending.
Will close the border to illegals
Will send the criminals and sponges back.
Will deport all illegals but will let the hard working ones go through the legal process to come back.
Against Anchor babies
Knows unemployment is much higher than official stats.
Will bring jobs back through better trade negotiation.
Attended military academy and Wharton Business School.
Stood up for Birthers and challenged Obama on his fraud.
Believes USA is ^the greatest force for freedom the world has ever known^
Wants to honor commitments on Social Security and Medicare, which we can afford to do if he gets the economy going full steam.
Wants to reduce the fraud in disability and other programs.
Against marriage penalties in tax code.
Wants to simplify tax code with just 3 simple brackets.
Wants to reduce income taxes and reduce corporate tax.
Wants to rebuild our infrastructure.
Wants to apply welfare-to-work to 76 other welfare programs (2011)
Doesn't have time for political correctness.
Not afraid to call out either party or both when they are wrong.
Not a puppet to rich campaign donors. Go Trump 2016! Born in America of two US Citizen Parents! A true Natural Born Citizen!

This thread has shown me something. Folks are showing the same bigotry for all New Yorkers that northern (D)ummycrats have for southerners, all southerners!

Try being from the "land of fruits and nuts." Lots and lots of FReepers have "the same bigotry" for all Californians. Even though the majority of the "fruits and nuts" they are referring to in this Golden state that both sides of my mom's family helped pioneer more than 150 years ago ... were born and raised outside of California.

Almost all of the fruits and nuts I know personally and well, as well as fruits and nuts I know of or know lightly, came here from the South , the Midwest, and the Eastern Seaboard.

Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer are invaders from the East and the Mid West.

I bet a million bucks that a whole lotta native New Yorkers have the same contempt for the lu-lu liberals that invaded and ruined their home, as we native Californians have for the Midwesterners and Easterners who have overrun California to become the latest fruits and nuts.

So cry me a river, Democratic-Republican, about "bigotry" the nation has against various regions and stereotypes. It ain't nothin' compared to the bigotry against Californians.

I am personally bigoted against fake "Republicans" who think more and bigger government is "our" friend, and I don't give a good doodly squat whether they come from NYC, Canada, Cuba, California, Hawaii, Alaska, or Gary Indiana.

Trump is a bad risk and I'm bigoted against bad risks.

I was grieved and angry that night, and felt completely alone in the world. And no, it was only about 90%, with most of the 10% in Staten Island and Bay Ridge.
