Cruz "insulted a lot of people," Trump said. "I've had more calls on that statement that Ted made. New York is a great place, it's got great people, it's got loving people, wonderful people. When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York."
"[T]wo one hundred and ten story buildings come crashing down. I saw them come down. Thousands of people killed, and the clean up started the next day and it was the most horrific cleanup in the history of doing this and in construction," Trump said.
"I was down there. And I've never seen anything like it. And the people in New York fought and fought and fought and we saw more death and even the smell of death, nobody understood it. And it was with us for months, the smell, the air. And we rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers. And I have to tell you that was a really insulting statement that Ted made."
Cruz did not offer a response to Trump.

I am a native New Yorker. Cruz told the truth (in his off-the-cuff, joking remark.) And the video record shows Trump saying exactly what Cruz said he said.
In evoking 9/11 images, Trump tried and — given a lot of posts on this site — succeeded in conflating two different types of values:
1) Brave, heroic, self-sacrificing first-responders running into burning buildings. Those are the values Trump was talking about.
2) That same brave, heroic, self-sacrificing first-responder voting to send Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer to the Senate. Those are the values Cruz was talking about.
Thanks for the note. I’m not happy about it, but that’s the facts.
You’re right. That Proposition 187 strike-down is still stuck in my craw.
If that had gone through, it would have gone a long way toward doing what Cruz says he wants to do now.
Tell me that doesn’t rub you the wrong way.
From someone since 2000, I say yes!
Reagan was from Illinois and then ran California as governor. Certainly blue states even then though maybe not as bad but you get it. He was the most conservative president.
conflation comes close
he inserted an irrelevancy in an attempt to evoke STRONG emotions
Irrelevant n so fare.....sigh....as it had nothing whatsoever to do with the “new yoirk state of mind” to which Mr Cruz was referring
and EMOTIONAL MONKEY WRENCH....the candidate from NYCS favorite weapon
the birther nor issue
the insulting mocking of the “crippled buy
its just who Donald is..and that aint Presidential material..its not even
Being here, Cruz is right to say not many conservatives come from NY because THEY DON'T. This garbage that Trump and Megyn Kelly are spewing about the Twin Towers and NYC Pride or whatever they are clambering about is buffoonish.
Cruz isn't insulting the heroes of 9/11. They are not even part of this. NY is a backward, dying state. It's wholly corrupt, dominated by the unions and liberal politicians that do their bidding. People like Clinton and Schumer, who Trump has donated to to help his own cause (nothing wrong with that BTW), dominate the political scene and have an army of drones voting for them every cycle.
It's a red herring. NY is conservative unfriendly.......that has zero to do with the Cops/Fire/EMTs.
He didn’t shut down anything because He never even addressed what ted said- NY is known for it’s liberal ideology- Trump didn’t even bother trying to address that- Not sticking up for either candidate, but to say trump shut Ted down- I have to ask how? By avoiding the truth? And diverting the statement by talking about something totally unrelated to the statement?
NY as opposed to what, D.C. values? Where he's created a political career? A career which is aided by Goldman Sachs Sultans of Sham which his wife is closely connected to?
Looking sharp Cathy!
Isn’t that a given? The weird thing would be if he lost his home state as a favorite son. The only one that I can remember that lost their own home state in many, many years was Al Gore in 2000. Winning one’s home state is usually considered a slam dunk.
Trump delivered a verbal kill shot tonight.
Cruz got beat so bad he clapped and gave Trump a look of admiration and respect.
Never ever forget that epic CA betrayal.
And once again all brought to us by lawyers turned politicians.
I thought, and think, that NYC got the chastisement it deserved. Many other areas and peoples deserve at least as much.
Sad but true.
100% spot on.
I don't know many people in Red States (I live in one, and I am a former New Yorker) who look forward to New Yorkers (especially from the city) moving in to their states. They poison the politics and bring the dump that is New York City and New York City values and politics with them. They both stink and are unwelcome.
Big big night for Trump.....bad night for Cruz, maybe Cruz learned something tonight, he was stunned after Trump dressed him down, he knew he hurt himself and didn’t know how to recover.
NYC liberals outing themselves here for Trump.
de Blasio values
I’ve only been ‘official’ since 2011, but I was a lurker long before that. Can I stay?
Yes, I live in Southern California. Totally overwhelmed with illegals, gang bangers, homosexuals, transgenders, dope head millennials, smart ass atheists and countless other liberal moonbats. This state deserves to be made fun of.
“trumps emotional arrow was aimed at the wrong target and he knows it and most of the rest of it KNOW THAT
the NYC state of mind...as exemplified by Billy DI Blasio,,,,was the TARGET of Ted Cruzes comment ....”
EXACTLY. Donald Trump is a phony, and tried to TWIST THE TRUTH.
NYC is the abortion capital of the country!!!!
If it weren’t for NYC voters, Cuomo would not be governor, because upstate NY voted for conservative Republican Astorino.
Thanks to Cuomo, we have same-sex “marriage.”
Plus our the entire state has extreme restrictions on our 2nd amendment rights.
These are the kinds of things Sen. Cruz was referring to, and as you say, Trump KNOWS IT!
