A new CBS report ahead of President Obama's last State of the Union address details how the Republican response - delivered by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley - will serve as a rebuttal to the policies of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump. The new report seems to underscore prior reporting from the Washington Post that "Rep. Paul Ryan is rapidly emerging as Republicansâ anti-Trump."
CBS writes: "The Republican response to the President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday evening appears to rebut⦠some of the policies espoused by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, according to excerpts released by House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin."
According to Ryan's excerpts, it seems as though Haley will focus particularly on chastising Trump's call for curbing immigration:
"I am the proud daughter of Indian immigrants who reminded my brothers, my sister and me every day how blessed we were to live in this country. My story is really not much different from millions of other Americans. Immigrants have been coming to our shores for generations to live the dream that is Americaâ¦Today, we live in a time of threats like few others in recent memory. During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices. We must resist that temptation. No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country."

How proud they must be. Doing the lefts bidding while insulting millions of voters.
The left loves her now due to her taking down the battle flag and ignoring Southerners .
They used this event to attack us, not Trump, and it goes to show how the left and the establishment are petrified of Trump as they cannot control him.
Me either. What you describe is the way my mind operates. I take a hypothesis and see where logically leads.
It seems that we're being lead down a real slippery slope that can affect our sovereignty. First it's Obama. I really think that one reason he got a "pass" is because he was passed off as black. But at least with him it was accepted that he was born in the US. Now we have a potential candidate who wasn't even born in the US, and his US birth certificate wasn't automatic. The future? They're role modeling a traitor to southern culture and history whose parents weren't even citizens when she was born.
Where's this going? How far are we, really, if this doesn't end now, from having a leader who's leader of more than one country? Would that be the end of our sovereignty.
I don't think I'm being far fetched here. Thinking outside the box, for sure, but I can see this going nowhere good.
EXACTLY. She ignored how Southerners feel, attacks anyone who disagrees with her and she took the black lives matter and NAACP side on this.
You two are both making the same good point: it's really the American voter the GOP elites were attacking last night, Trump is just the vehicle.
They continue to let us know the same thing the Democrats have for a long time: your opinions and wishes are irrelevant.
Every time they attack Trump or Cruz they attack millions of us voters. F them
[Trumpâs playing it close to the vest how many immigrants can return.
Maybe just a handful? Maybe all who have no violent / horrific records?
âTed Cruz: Trump Will Let Deported Immigrants Back In, I Wonât]
Trump did say the deported illegals would have to be in line with all the others waiting now. Hopefully we get more if the legal and less of the illegals.
But how many is Cruz willing to deport? Last I heard it was only those arrested of other crimes.
They insults millions of us voters,. They then think by insulting us that they will win an election.
The only reason we took control of Congress is because we fought back against the establishment and if they could get off their elitist , egotistical asses then they could see the GOP winning the White house, but while they insult us then forget it.
I think they also picked her because South Carolina is the last chance to derail Trump in their minds. Somehow they’re delusional enough to think Nikki’s speech won’t help Trump.
Leni
Thanks for the confirmation on Nikki’s establishment creds. GOPe continues doing the work for the Dems.
I’m glad I am not the only one who sees it this way.
My dad always said he was a conservative because conservatives thought of all of the possible consequences before they took an action while liberals did whatever seemed good that day.
In all honesty I think that if Cruz and Rubio truly had the best interest for our country in mind they would not run.
Because he’s not the frontrunner. If they take Trump out, they’ll go after Cruz.
Just in case anyone has any doubts about Haley, she was on cable TV this morning ...
The only thing I want to know is how can someone manage to talk for so long keeping their teeth closed and their lips open? Can't say I ever seen that before. Kids these days.
( if she has some birth defect or something I'd retract that question )
Simply astonishing.
I think unless Trump or Cruz win the nomination and presidency, I will be registering as an Independent shortly after the election.
“Just in case anyone has any doubts about Haley, she was on cable TV this morning (Wed.) verifying that she was indeed referring to Trump in her (phony) GOPe “rebuttal” speech last night....plus she threw in another dig or two against him while she had the opportunity.”
Thanks for the verification. It is despicable how the left, the media and the GOPe all attack Trump - yet he is still leading. My vote for him is as much a vote against them as it Isa vote for his policies.
Ivanka for VP
It’s us against the Uniparty now.
Amen.
“I think unless Trump or Cruz win the nomination and presidency, I will be registering as an Independent shortly after the election.”
I was just thinking the same thought. This is the last straw for me.
I will vote for Trump, as much to poke the establishment in the eye as for his stance on immigration and willingness to take on the MSM. However, I will not vote for any GOPe candidates downticket. I will write in someone if I must, but I am done with the uniparty.
I really, really hope we won’t have to hear about Putz Ryan as long as we did Boner.
