Marine Corps Ordered to Make Boot Camp Coed, Remove 'Man' from Titles
Military.com ^ | January 7, 2015 | Hope Hodge Seck

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus has given Marine Corps brass two weeks to submit a plan to train male and female recruits together at boot camp and fully integrate officer candidate school.

He's also calling for the Marines to make all job titles gender-neutral as the service opens currently closed ground combat jobs to women.

In a Jan. 1 memo obtained by Military.com and first reported by Marine Corps Times, Mabus ordered the Corps to send him a detailed plan by Jan. 15 for making boot camp and officer training coed. He also requested that the Marines provide him with a "subject matter expert" on the issue. The plan should identify where training is already integrated by gender, where it is separate, and how the Marines will work to fully integrate all training, Mabus said.

Thanks for taking the time to make a very lengthy and appreciated reply.

Could there ever be a female version of a Sgt. Alvin York or an Audie Murphy? I know there are many other war heroes in our military history but those were the first to come to mind. There are some big and strong women out there but they might prefer to make money at playing lingerie football!

This will last until the next big war and all the signs seem to say we will not have a long wait. It will become a silly footnote in history—not that women do not have a place in war—they always have. Just not on the front. Someone has to boil the oil to pour on the enemy? Do the cooking, mend the ripped uniforms, wash the cloths, fill out the papers work and keep the soldiers motivated—if time get bad—Like the Alamo or Battle of the bulge—they sometimes need to sholder arms and fight too.

Harmony for Mattis is a focus on the battle. Focus on the battle. Trust has to be between the MEN next to each other. If there is a female, the focus could be against each other and, oh, my, I hate whining, can you imagine having to go to battle listening to a whine? He said, “Be the hunter, not the hunted: Never allow your unit to be caught with its guard down.” NO DISTRACTIONS = PERFECT INFANTRY HARMONY.

Also, taken out of context I focused on the “vicious harmony” and thought he would never, never, do anything to crush the morale of his Marines. He is an inspirational speaker and I believe from reading his other famous quotes and listening to a couple of speeches that strength and unity through honor, courage, and commitment, plus a thick icing of badass would not include females in his infantry.

It also brings harmony in the civilian village because you don’t mess with “Mad Dog” Mattis. When he entered he said, “I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you &#@k with me, I’ll kill you all.” For those civilians who truly wanted peace, they would have had it. I believe he said that in Iraq.

He should be our next Secretary of Defense.

no one can claim he would have any better for the military than Obama.

There's no comparison. Romney would have been bad on immigration and squishy on abortion. But you're kidding yourself if you entertain the idea that he would have been anything like the man you aptly call a jihadist who occupies the Hut at present.

I'm all for taking a no-compromise stand where the downside is just a Congressional seat or two or three. But the Presidency is such a high-leverage position, failing to choose the lesser of two evils is simply advancing evil. Trying to see it your way, maybe you could make the argument that it will have taken the Full 0bama to wake the country up. I hope we're in time.

Evil comes in many colors. When I look at the judges he appointed, laws signed and all the rest, no. I don’t think I’m kidding myself or anyone else. His record is what it is and it mirrors Obamas. Given the presidency he would have tracked left just like obama and they were far to the left to begin with.

Squishy? He BBQs shredded babies for profit. That’s rank evil. He FATHERED gay marriage in america. He draft dodged as did his entire liniage. The guy is Barry ‘White”.

Would he have done Barrys exact crap? No. He;d have done his own brand and none of it would be better. But it would be all on our necks instead of the liberal Dems. Personally I’m glad for that little silver lining.

Oh crud. Sorry I misread that. I was reading so fast I thought the ‘harmony’ quote was from Mabus and didn't see it was Mattis. Now it makes sense! I need to slow down while reading, apparently.:)

Coming from Mattis and knowing the quote is aimed at all male Marine combat units. Excellent! I can't imagine what he must be thinking witnessing the social engineering his beloved Corps is being subjected to under these radicals.

Meanwhile, the cities his men fought and bled in are just handed over to ISIS because of Obama's idiocy. Must make his blood boil.

That’s a great one-liner summary. I shall use that, consider it appropriated.

Now I know what those things at the Buddhist Temple down the street from my house are! I thought they were just pretty decorations. I always wondered why the looked like old time wagon wheels.

Being a Air Force town, we have a fairly large Asian population. Plus we had a Vietnamese refugee center here back in the late 70’s and many of them stayed in this area. My neighbor’s wife is Korean, and we have many Thai and Filipinos as well. In the summertime the Buddhist Temple has a combination Fresh Market and garage sale every Saturday where you can go buy homegrown veggies and various sundry goods that people sell in support of the monks who live at the temple. I see them at the Sam’s from time to time in their yellow robes shopping for groceries.................

Some of the monks are pretty cool. If you see some, strike up a conversation.

My wife and I are going to visit a Laotian Buddhist temple later this month when we go to the cemetery - 11 year anniversary of our son’s death. Feed the monk(s), get a little good Karma for the return trip.
