In a little more than a month, Republicans will finally begin voting in the primary over whom their nominee for president will be. But the race has been underway for months, and a lot has happened since then. Thankfully, the people at Civis Analytics made this great map that can help you catch up with what's happened so far in the GOP primary:
Above all, the map shows just how dominant billionaire Donald Trump has been throughout the process. Sure, Ben Carson rose, and Trump's numbers took a small hit, for a bit. But since then, he has regained plurality support across the country, and his national poll numbers have grown.
The map also shows Ted Cruz gaining momentum as Carson fades away in the past month or so.
One group that won't be happy about this map: the Republican establishment.

Not even a smidgen of purple! Poor Jebito!!
However, this sentence:
“There’s also a convincing case, as Vox’s Matt Yglesias explained, that a Trump or Cruz victory in the primaries would tank Republicans’ chances of winning the general election and, as a result, ruin their chances of dominating practically every level of American politics.”
...makes me dubious of the source.

Don’t forget that no one will show up to vote for Trump in the primaries. /s
What I don’t understand that someone that commands audiences of 10s of thousands of people as he goes around the country.
Cannot beat Hillary or Larry David “Bernie”
Why the jeering at JEB? He was a solid governor of Florida. His father and brother both did good jobs for the country.
Sure you (and I) have differences with some of his views which are wrong for these times. Sure he is not a great candidate which is good from my point of view given my immediately prior statement.
Still I do not get why the need to jeer him?
This is written as if GOPe dominating every level of American politics would be a good thing.
Dubious, in deed.
Many of the Trump supporters are from typically Democrat strongholds: minorities, blue collar workers, for example.
Trump is building that ‘bigger tent’ the GOP establishment has been claiming they want. The elites just do not like the fact that it is Trump who is building that ‘bigger tent’.
I just do not see those factions supporting Trump now and then, what, pulling the lever for Hillary in November?
its Vox
I read that same sentence and I thought the same. You think the Mexican will drive voters to the polls and continue the sweep into the state and federal offices?
Trump and Cruz will bring out the base. The Mexican kills any chance we have. Oh if he is the candidate, I write in my own name. He truly is stupid.
Most of the wannabes are not even winning their home states.
I was just watching Michael Smerc—whatever on CNN, and he was presenting the most biased argument based on map overlays of Trump support and areas of racist internet searches, trying to make the point that they matched. However, he completely ignored a lot of the support Trump had in the West, and he kept overlaying the maps so fast it was impossible to make an argument against him. He then had Bob Beckel as a panelist who made a totally unsubstantiated allegation of some type of sexual abuse against Trump, which he was allowed to put out with no pushback at all. The second panelist, a black woman, basically said that if Trump was elected a lot more blacks would be shot, and the Daily Caller panelist said that the Republicans were just as scared as the other two! This is a taste of what is to come. They must be really, really scared of Trump.
Looks like Huck could be Gov.of AR again...oops
-—— if Trump was elected a lot more blacks would be shot,——
she’s almost right. why, if Trump is elected, it will be no limit open season /s
Be sure to verify the date of your state’s Primary Election and be there. Don’t trust the Absentee Ballot option if you can help it, as sometimes they’re not counted (especially military ballots in blue-leaning states). Early voting in person might be OK.
Don't jeer Jeb?
Thanks for the laugh.
But the Huckster has like five counties in Arkansas!
I met W in the Oval Office. I liked him and still think his general anti-terror strategy was right. But times have changed and for any family to put this much prestige and effort into---once again, someone as you said knows his views are out of step with Americans, well, it's unconscionable.
So he deserves to be ripped. Now, if he would generously and graciously throw all his money and support behind Trump, I'd rethink my opinion of him.
“Still I do not get why the need to jeer him?”
Because he’s a worthless dullard, who was the great moderate hope of the Establishment. He was going to be shoved down our throats and we were going to be FORCED to vote for him, with glee, as we were forced to vote for the ODIOUS John McCain and the phony Mitt Romney.
He was the WORST POSSIBLE candidate to get behind, and his failure should be openly and continually ridiculed.
