After a teacher at a Virginia school handed out a standard homework assignment on Islam, such an angry backlash flooded in that it prompted officials to close every single school in the county as a safety precaution.

Whether you do it in your public school system or decide to home school, a kid's education should be DIRECTED by the parent.
Period.
Full stop.
End of story.
Additionally, I encourage everyone to check out the resources at hslda.org as it is a wonderful place for the homeschool community.
Truly, homeschooling is not as difficult as one thinks: a lot of online resources and curriculum are available. And you can let your student(s) be educated at a level where they can excel.
One example of online learning: www.aop.com is Alpha Omega Publications.
AOP has several offerings, one of which is called "Monarch" an online program.
Close down all public skools. There is as much “right” to education as there is the “right” to vacation. Responsible parents should educate their own and not expect the gubmint to do what they are supposed to do.
Ah, for those times when the parents of that area would have simply gotten the Principal, and associated teachers of that school kicked out so far that they would have landed in Mecca.
This is just punishing the parents for complaining.
One parent has to stay home from work to stay with the kiddos.
Next time there won’t BE any complaints about forced islamism of the kiddos.
Bump.
If I were a muslim I would not be happy about the name of Allah and the shahada being a practice for art. What was that teacher thinking?
Reciting the shahada is the first step, or First Pillar, of becoming a Muslim.
Out of all the Arabic phrases in the world the teacher just randomly picked the one people recite in converting to Islam?
I can’t tell you how many times I wrote or spoke about how my aunt’s pen is on the table in the library, while studying French. So there are alternatives besides the one on the ISIS flag.

Hi all,
My name is Wilson Dizard and I am a reporter with Al Jazeera America. I was hoping someone who lives in Augusta, Va. might want to tell us how they see the controversy over the assignment, and what effect it has had on the community. Please send me a direct message if you would like to talk for an story I’m writing.
My deadline is at 1 p.m.
Thank you,
Wilson Dizard

This ping list is for the "other" articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
They can reverse the shahada by saying “there is no god named Allah and Mohammed is his false prophet.”
Seriously, the teacher must be fired. There is no possible explanation that this was an oversight.
Administrators just wanted a longer Christmas break.
Note to Will Dizard:
I don’t care if your name is Lynyrd Skynyrd. This crap does not belong in our public schools! And if you can’t understand that, you’re even more Dizard than your name implies!
It will probably be easier to find Obama's birth certificate then it will be to find out the name of the teacher who gave the homework assignment.
Common Core was initiated with a huge grant from the government of QATAR. Common Core IS Islamic.
Why do people think Muslim propaganda is popping up everywhere? In the same schools where children are not allowed to carry a Rosary or a Bible?
The parents are being blamed for this. If you stand up for yourself in America today you are treated like a criminal.
It shows a complete lack of critical thought on the part of the teacher. The "assignment" was in the workbook, so, she asked the students to complete the "assignment."
