I hope the vote was 10 or more for acquittal.
The long play was to get ANY conviction of one of the black officers and then parlay it into him (or her) flipping on the other officers to make a deal. This is a MAJOR setback and headache for the prosecution and DA.
I learned today there were 7 Blacks & 5 Whites.
Au contraire. Can you recall who said that lie? That is the exact opposite of reality. The defense motioned for a change of venue because it would be an unfair trial, whereas the prosecution argued to keep it in Baltimore (and won) knowing the jury pool had a better chance of finding guilt in this kangaroo court. If this were moved outside Baltimore, its most likely the police would be acquitted much quicker based on the facts.
This prosecution is amateurish and politically motivated to hang innocent cops.
Thanks; I wonder how it broke down in terms of who wanted convictions and who wanted acquittals. Because it is a bad area, I wouldn’t assume the black jurors will side with the perp (or “victim”, depending on how you look at it).
I see your point; I guess we won’t know unless we know how the individual jurors were leaning. To me the city’s payment to the “victim” should have made it imperative to move it.
Again, this was supposed to be the easy one - and they didn’t get convictions on ANY of the charges.
I was about to ask about that. The jury couldn’t agree on even one of the four charges! Wow.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
I also do acknowledge many reasons this should have been moved, and your point about the city settlement is a fantastic one.
Thanks; I saw one of the talking heads on the news discussing it. Really strange that they couldn’t agree to convict on ANY charges; again, this was supposed to be the easiest of the cases.
