There were âsmiling facesâ from the crowds exiting the Los Angeles premiere of The Force Awakens on Monday night. Amongst these, presumably, were Disney executives ecstatic that the $4bn they paid George Lucas for franchise rights looks to have been a sound investment.
Initial reactions from all three screening rooms where the film was shown for the first time â as well as from social media â suggest that JJ Abrams has the chops to please both critics and fans, and that The Force Awakens may well recoup at least half the $4bn by itself.
A journalist for the Hollywood Reporter was one of the first to tweet following the event, at which mobile phones were confiscated.

Worries me, too. Taking my boys 2nd day opening.
JarJar Binks isn’t in it. So that’s a pretty big plus right there.
I’ll wait for it to come out on iTunes.
I hate theaters.
Or live in a fantasy of denial.
“The adolescent retardation of this interest by our population is vacuous.”
Most of it is Disney hype and marketing. While some pople may be driven to hysteria, most of the “excitement” is generated by Disney. Something Edward Bernays was good at.
Aw,come on WENDLE,lighten up.
Some people love this type of movie, some don’t.I don’t.
I would never insult someone who likes this type of thing.
Different strokes,and all that.
You’re the one that is acting adolescent.

They had security tighter than you’d believe for this event. There were no incidents for the premiere. What might happen with the opening night on Friday...we’ll have to wait and see.
If someone does try something, it might be the catalyst that pisses off enough people to do something.
My wife took me to a movie today. (I usually watch them at home, a lot cheaper that way without the aggravation of going out.) Anyway, she made an observation that practically all the previews, and top movies out, are full of violence and fighting. However, the media would have you believe that people abhor guns and violence. The media must be wrong, because the multitudes enjoy action, violent drama, explosions and shoot-ups (and the triumph of good over evil), and that makes the big bucks. I think she is on to something, that support of the 2nd Amendment is much stronger than the media would have one believe.
Looking forward to seeing this.
But they have really oversold it.
Better be a great movie, and I hope it is.
I aint watching it till mid Januaray and only in the “cheap seats” when i have a few hours i need to kill.

No... it... won't.
Yup. I like science fiction but I don’t go crazy about it.
Plus I won’t be giving Disney a damn dime.
Well, I'm telling you NOW...if it doesn't have Kim Kardashian or Justin Bieber in it...then it's not worth leaving "Big Bang Theory" reruns for.
The very idea!
I am far more worried about an attack on 100,000 at a bowl game than a stupid movie theater.
I just hope that everyone who can carry, does.
Flashlights and reloads, too.
If you’re in a state that has theaters with, “NO GUNS,” signs that don’t have the force of law behind them, carry your weapons with you.
Lighten up, Francis.
It has been the dichotomy of Hollywierd: Liberals claim they hate guns and violence yet it is what Hollywierd makes the most of.
For the love of everything that’s good and decent...
Nobody post the picture of Carrie Fisher flashing leg at the premier!!!!!!
Reserved seats for the whole family on Saturday AM!
With all those guns and light sabers, liberal heads are going to be poppin’ all over the theaters. Lots of wet and loaded Huggies among the college crowd.
