The Cruz v. Trump Rumble Is Coming Tonight
Red State ^ | 12/15/2015 | Leon H. Wolf

Posted on 12/15/2015 7:55:24 AM PST by conservativejoy

At long last, the battle between Cruz and Trump has been joined. Trump's remarks on Cruz have made national news, and both Limbaugh and Levin have called out Trump. There's no way the moderators of tonight's debate can let this incident pass without remarking on it. Always before, Trump and Cruz have avoided coming to blows because both were mutually agreeable to it.

Now, it seems like that is no longer the case for Trump. And even if his remark may have been off the cuff (as I somewhat expect that it was) and that he probably genuinely feels no personal animus towards Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100%, Donald Trump cannot apologize. For one thing, I think he might be physically incapable of saying the words, "I'm sorry." As in, he suffers from a rare and debilitating throat condition that affects him in exactly one way , inability to form the words "I'm" and "sorry" in that order.

For another thing, part of Trump's brand is built on the idea that he is a guy who does not apologize, or admit error, or appear contrite for any reason. If he refused to apologize for mocking a disabled guy , and was praised by his followers for it , how can he apologize for unintentionally besmirching the political reputation of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100%?

For Cruz, this then becomes a case of him being in a war, whether he knows it or not. The Donald cannot back down, and thus far has had no reason to. Everyone he has taken on the GOP field has ultimately faded, with the exception of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 94%, who at least has been kept at bay. Trump has no reason to think that tussling with Cruz will end any differently; although the reaction of Limbaugh and Levin may indicate that he may have misread the playing field in that respect.

That does not necessarily mean that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% will respond in kind; in fact, I rather suspect he won’t. Cruz might well go on saying that he thinks The Donald is great, and awesome, and the best think that’s ever happened to America, even while Trump is literally spitting in his face.

However, that in and of itself does not indicating that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% is not fighting; rather, it indicates that he is fighting in essentially the same manner as Ghandi, and hoping to win by roughly the same means.

But one way or another, the confrontation is coming. Trump realizes that he cannot win the nomination with just the ~30% that he has, and the amount that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% is consolidating against him has reached the point of presenting a genuine threat to Trump. Unlike Carson, Trump knows better than to expect that Cruz will be undone on his own through being unprepared or ill-equipped to handle hostile questioning.

Sooner or later it had to happen, and Trump is dictating that it will happen now.

Political ‘reporter’: “It’s a cage fight! He insulted him! This can’t stand!”

Political ‘pundit’: “Oh these candidates are so shallow!”

There will be no rumble. It’s a media driven conflict to increase interest. Hype that benefits all DT CRUZ and the various media articles

It’s a side show. The Left loves sideshows that deflects the real substantive issues of the Left’s failed dogma of big government and less freedom. The stupid Right allows them to do so. The Right has more integrity than the Left but the Left is more cunning than the Right.

The whole “debate” in it’s current, non-substantive format is a side show. Kind of a waste. One wishes somebody on the Right would take the reigns of some kind of broadcasting capability and actually hold an debate with an actual debate format where agreed-upon substantive topics were discussed and debated by ALL participants, the “moderators” totally in the background.

What apology?! Trump said what he needed to say. Cruz is a maniac martyr that has pretty much lost every battle and alienated everyone. What’s the problem with that observation? And Scalia, he spoke poorly and sounded racist. Good Trump called him on this, too bad others want to instead circle the wagons. Levin supports Cruz, so no surprise he’s upset. Maniac Cruz easily sticks, just like Trump’s other labels on other candidates. Trump knows his current targets and he is systematically dealing with them. Cheers to Trump.

I hope Cruz and Trump refuse to let the drive-by media dictate to them. Fight the real enemy: the drive-by media and the GOP-E, especially John Ellis Bush and Aqualad.

+1

Good. I think Cruz also has the challenge of breaking out from just conservative support and starting to appeal to moderates.
He has a very big night tonight, though not absolutely crucial.

And he and Trump should both get in licks against Rubio.

Look at your tag line...would Patton apologize?

Patton made a public apology for the "slapping incidents" during his 1943 Sicily campaign.

It will be muted but the media will try to stir it up and claim it’s something else

Neither has a lot to gain being nasty with the other

Trump needs to show restraint

Cruz keep on being erudite

Bigger challenge for Trump but he is way ahead

Their support groups overlap a lot....like me

Why alienate

I was just on the site. They have a live TV button.

It brought me to live CNN, but I am not sure if that is because I have that through my cable provider. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

With all of the folks cutting the cord out there, I would think it would benefit them to stream it.

I hope neither candidate falls for this set up, the media left, right and in between are playing the roll of instigators they don’t want to hear where each candidate is coming from they want a Tuesday Night Fight, based on what we are reading on these Cruz Trump threads that is what freepers want too, why would any freeper want to see conservatism shed its own blood at the pleasure of the enemy, this is not a sport it is our Free Republic already hanging by a thread that is at stake.

If this BS keeps up, in the end, we are going to lose, we have seen this all before in 2012, only difference is it will be Jeb or some other Rino instead of Romney who is the last man standing and ultimately Hillary will be president.

Funny how the story is being ‘twisted’, isn’t it?

Trump didn’t throw the first punch, but he punched back.

Eh, whatever. I like both Trump and Cruz. And I hope they continue to be a bulwark against any unwelcome incursion by the corrupt Establishment guys. Same reason I’m still glad to see Carson in there (although I have big, big problems with him on issues), as he’s provided yet a THIRD buffer, stymying the plans the GOP-E creeps.

Trump and Cruz are competitors, and obviously should tussle a bit. But I don’t want to see them tearing each other apart, and creating an opening for some Establishment tool to rise up and grab the gold ring in this merry-go-round.

All great leaders must have the capacity of listen to genuinely good advice ...

Rush and Mark Levin are trying to HELP Donald Trump ...

THIS EPISODE is the “first” real character test for Donald Trump the candidate ...

I pray to God that Donald Trump passes the test ...

Donald Trump needs to apologize to Ted Cruz and Scalia ... and THEN reap INCREDIBLE political rewards ...

Period.

I agree with the gist of your post, that Trump needs to moderate himself on this issue. Whether an actual apology is the correct course of action, I do not know about that.

Maybe there is another way to accomplish the same goal.

But I agree with you on the goal.

Cruz is up in Iowa in one poll

He is not ripping t his heels

Trump just crossed 40% in rolling averages

It won’t stop the media though

I would hope a battle is indeed coming, though preferably on Trump’s terms. With the GOP plotting machinations, gutting Cruz in Iowa reduces the chances of a Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio upset due to RNC rules designed to divide up delegates in states conservatives are likely to win, and then giving 100% of delegates in states the GOPe expects to do strongly.
