With Donald Trump and Marine Le Pen surging in the polls in the US and France, comparisons between the two politicians have been popping up all over the place.
"Donald Trump is now America's Marine Le Pen." declared a headline in the New Yorker this week........
When it came to Donald Trump's call for s "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the US" Ms Le Pen asked a television interviewer: "Seriously have you ever heard me say something like thst?"......

The media is trying to use Trump against her.

Right you are, Civ...again! There is absolutely no comparison possible between the Le Pen family, the frontistes, and Donald Trump, or any American conservative. The FN is a continuation of the pro-Vichy anti Semitic, anti American neo-Nazi party today known as the National Front. they are Statists,socialists, albeit National Socialists, who believe in huge central government. Latest polls has them losing tomorrow, but Fench polling is not the best.
Sarkozy's policy of refusing an alliance with the Socialists to defeat MLP is the correct one. He understands totally the evils of socialism of any stripe, and knows it must be wiped off the political map.
Impy, it was always one sided, unrequited love of Marine for Trump. She is playing the class warfare card against the rich, and he is well, rich. She doesn’t understand that permits him to self fund and be independent of all special interest groups.
I hope people get over the totally ill founded notion that Marine, her father or Baby le Pen are any kind of Conservatives. They are the antithesis of American conservatism that believes in individual liberty and freedom, the Constitution, as written, RKBA. The believe in the supremacy of the state, in and of itself, a socialist concept. The FN is not “far right wing “ It is just another variety of totalitarian socialism, glossed over with a little patriotism bc it sells now. They hate all foreigners, and loathe the USA, and everything we stand for, and our way of life.
The daughter, MLP and Baby le Pen are both the creation of the family “mastermind” Jean-Marie le Pen.
They have repackaged his xenophobic, anti semitic, anti-American ideas in a more modern, more attractive package, although I still think MLP is her father in drag.
If Sarkozy’s long term strategy succeeds, France will be rid of two of the poisons that are destroying it from the inside, socialism, and a renascent totalitarian neo-fascism.

Sarkozy’s party, “Les Republicains” (The Republicans) is an attempt to identify his party with patriotism and the notion of France as a “Republic”.
But it also reminds me that Sarkozy is to the Left of me like the Republicans in this country. When Sarkozy was president, he increased funding for public broadcasting in France as an example.
His party is for the EU and multinational government that may not be in the interests of sovereign nations.
Sarkozy inherits the mantle of the man who founded France’s “Fifth Republic”, Charles De Gaulle.
DeGaulle backed out of politics after leading the “Free French” movement in WW 2, but came back in 1958 insisting that a new constitution be approved giving him as president strong powers to deal with factional disputes in the National Assembly.
De Gaulle sold out the French colonists to the leftist fighting for independence in Algeria.
This led to a coup attempt by rebellious military units and generals in Algeria in 1961 and an attempt to assassinate De Gaulle in early 1963.
After Algeria was given to the socialist-leftist rebels, many of the colonists came back to southern France and would fuel the membership of the National Front in its earlier years.
It's official! The FN will not control any region in France. Marine le Pen and Narion Maréchal Le Pen lost big.
Five regions will be directed by the Right and five will be headed by the Left. Results for the region Paris Ile de France are not yet known.
Pretty much expected I think.....
