Former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge said Friday that he would not support Donald Trump as Republican presidential nominee â and that "a real possibility" existed that he might not vote at all in next year's election if that is the case.
"I think he is an embarrassment to the party," Ridge, who became the nation's first secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush in 2003, told Neil Cavuto on Fox News. "If he is the man who has the votes, then that's the way it will be."
But when asked whether he would support the billionaire developer, Ridge said: "No. I can't vote for Donald Trump."
For Democrat Hillary Clinton?
"No," he replied. "I couldn't do that either. I know I can't support Donald for a variety of reasons."
"What does Tom Ridge do?" Cavuto asked. "Don't vote at all?"
"A real possibility," the former governor said. "It would be tough for me ⦠, but I don't think Donald Trump will get the nod."
Trump hit back sharply on Twitter:
Donald J. Trump Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Follow Tom Ridge should be focused on trying to bring the party together rather than ripping it apart w/ your faulty thought process. I will win! 1:37 PM - 11 Dec 2015
Donald J. Trump Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Follow Tom Ridge is a failed 'Bushy' & PA Governor. Him & his friend @KarlRove shouldn't be allowed to do their bias commentary- nobody listens! 1:49 PM - 11 Dec 2015

This is why the libs are kicking our collective asses. The Dems will fall in lock-step behind somebody who ought to be in jail, and WE form a circular firing squad and shoot our own. If you don’t like someone, don’t vote for them or hold your nose in the voting booth, but Republicans need to KNOCK IT OFF when it comes to preening before the cameras. It’s not like the press is ever really going to like them.
Bonus: watch everyone on FR beat their chests about it.
I was listening to Cavuto yesterday when he said that. You could tell that Cavuto was a bit dumbfounded he would say that. I guess Ridge has received his orders from the GOPe.
And is the GOP even thinking about that? I get that the uniparty doesn't like an outsider like Trump. But at this point, if Trump doesn't get in, the Republican party ceases to exist. Does the Republican Party care about that?? And if Trump doesn't get in, then Hillary does, and then the USA may well cease to exist. Does the Republican Party care about that??
The thing I find most concerning is that the GOP seems incapable of looking beyond Nov 2016. They are not looking at the long term consequences. And when I say "long-term", I mean 12 months from now.
They shoudl suck it up in 2016 if they want to survive. But they seem hellbent on suicide. Very disturbing. Why???
Interesting isn’t it that conservatives are blasted because we either didn’t or grudgingly voted for the GOPe non-conservative candidate. Yet, now when it looks like the GOPe might not get their anointed candidate, they do the same thing, but that’s ok. The GOP is done, and has been for some time. We have a single party system.
Who cares?
Well, I find this hard to believe (s)
Imagine, Ridge in Rove’s hip pocket. Rove has very little room in that hidey hole. That’s quite all right Tom. There are the Dicks and Harrys who would fell a bit differently.
That would be Tom Ridge, father of the TSA, HSA and nursing mother of the NSA.
Pretty much the face of evil.
Well I guess he is/was part of the problem the whole time then eh? Maybe he can land a gig on Dancing With the Stars next season.
Hey Tom....What do I do with all this plastic and duct tape?
"Screw you guys. I'm going home."
Truth be told, I can’t either. our parallels to this are just too numerous. He could easily be the strong man:

Good for you.
Too bad his appeal is limited to a narrow group of conservatives.
Spit*
Under Chertoff, Bush’s Homeland security chief, it was discovered he had people who’d enter the country illegally wandering around his private residence.
Bush and his administration nearly made American citizenship all but pointless.
All during war time.
Then you get Hillary. The GOPe is the party of fools.
No...That was John Ashcroft.
Who cares? Tom Ridge, like all the Republican suck ups, served the government at the highest levels. Gained top secret information, and then turned around when he left and opened a consulting firm and sold what he knew to the highest bidder., the system is corrup and we have corruptible people serving.
No, that was another guy, attorney general what’s his name.
Still, Ridge sucks just the same.
Better said if not voting for Rep nominee you are voting forClinton.
