Ben Carson on Friday blasted the Republican National Committee following a Washington Post report that nearly two-dozen establishment party figures were prepping for a potential brokered convention as Donald Trump continues to lead most polls.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus held a dinner in Washington, D.C., on Monday, and, according to five people who spoke with the Post, the possibility of Trump heading into the Cleveland convention with a noteworthy number of delegates was a topic of discussion. In the meeting, a number of Republicans suggested the establishment lay the groundwork for a floor fight that would lead the partyâs mainstream wing to unite behind an alternative.
âIf the leaders of the Republican Party want to destroy the party, they should continue to hold meetings like the one described in the Washington Post this morning,â Carson said in a statement released by his campaign.
Carson said he prays the Postâs report is incorrect and threatened to leave the GOP. âIf it is correct, every voter who is standing for change must know they are being betrayed. I wonât stand for it,â said Carson, who noted that if the plot is accurate, âI assure you Donald Trump wonât be the only one leaving the party.â
The retired neurosurgeon said that next summerâs Cleveland convention could be the last Republican National Convention if leaders try to manipulate it.
âI am prepared to lose fair and square, as I am sure is Donald,â Carson said. âBut I will not sit by and watch a theft. I intend on being the nominee. If I am not, the winner will have my support. If the winner isnât our nominee then we have a massive problem.â

If he did would anyone notice?
If he supported the Constitution Party, that would be good.
He won’t be alone.
Carson expresses the thinking of the increased hordes of Americans who won’t support the GOPee nominee, should the GOPee figure out how to drag one across the nomination finish line.
Wow.
Good for him.
Another reason Reince Poobah should have been given the boot in Nov. 2012.
When you have advisers from two campaigns in attendance(Bush and Rubio), and not others,at a secret meeting, it is a recipe for disaster.
Good for Carson! He is now third on my list.
Well said, Dr. Carson.
Carson is not my choice but he is a good man. Kudos to him for this!
You can be certain that Trump took notice of this meeting.
If Preibus was at that meeting, it’s a definite violation of the agreement he sighed with Trump.
Would anyone notice?
If the GOPe tries to pull this crap I guarantee #I_m__Gone.
Slightly off topic (but not much):
As I was reading this article, I got an email from the GOP trying to sell me a travel tumbler. Here was my response:
“You guys have GOT to be kidding!
Youâre holding secret meetings to figure out how to steal the nomination away from the anti-establishment types (mostly Trump and Cruz), and you want our money! No way in Hell.
FYI, I am not only college educated, I have 3 separate post-graduate degrees and I have followed politics closely since the mid-1970âs. Iâm not some idiot â but that is exactly how you are treating me, as well as literally MILLIONS of others. You want this to be the last GOP convention? Fine, then steal the nomination away from Trump or Cruz.
Meanwhile, you know where you can stick your travel tumbler.
Ancesthntr
Proud conservative, Texan and American”
Yup, that would be the end of an effective GOP
Gentle Ben will have a prominent cabinet position in Trump/Cruz combine.
