GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump's support is rising in New Hampshire despite his controversial call for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S., according a poll out Friday
The 90.9 WBUR survey finds Trump with 27 percent support among GOP primary voters, 15 points above New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has climbed 6 percent in the last month to claim second place in New Hampshire.
Trump is up 4 points from the same poll in November, marking his best showing in the Granite State yet.
Trump's showing follows his suggestion that the U.S. temporarily halt admitting Muslims to the homeland on Monday. He argued that the drastic measure is necessary for preventing radical Islamic terrorism on American soil.
Multiple lawmakers from both political parties have since condemned Trump's suggestion as both impractical and unconstitutional.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) ranks third with 11 percent, while Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is a close fourth with 10 percent of his own.
Former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-) completes the GOP's current top five in New Hampshire, netting 8 percent there.
Friday's poll found that New Hampshire's likely GOP presidential primary voters view the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as the nationâs most dangerous threat.
About 87 percent view ISIS as a significant menace, the highest of any option WBUR sampled among that demographic.
Another 11 percent think the terrorist group is at least a minor concern, leaving nearly the entire sample worried about its existence.
Pollsters additionally found that Granite State Republicans are excited about political outsiders like Trump heading into 2016. They discovered that 46 percent want a president next year from "somewhat outside" the political establishment.
90.9 WBUR conducted its latest sampling of 402 likely GOP presidential primary voters in New Hampshire via cell and landline telephone interviews from Dec. 6-8. It has a 4.9 percent margin of error at the 95 percent confidence level.
That word “controversial” doesn’t mean what the left seems to think it means, ie, “things we disagree with”.
He didn’t propose a ban. Just a moratorium.
What about Hilary’s language such as “What difference does it make”, etc.
The MSM is so anti-American it’s disgusting.
Christie? Those people are idiots. Soviet Red Hampshire should be the LAST primary.
The left thinks they are the keeper of the state definitions.
We’d better keep our distance from leftists in coming days, wouldn’t want to get spatter on us as their heads explode.
I think the people are finally realizing that. Which is why Trump's popularity is not waning despite the most brutal all-out character assassination I have ever seen from the media. What Trump is going through is 10x worse than what was done to Sarah Palin, Dan Quayle, GWB, etc.
Trump does not have a racist or anti-semitic bone in his body and it is disgraceful the way that the media and establishment pols are piling on like they are.
Despite? I think not.
Exactly. I have been railing against this stupid nomination process for decades.
That’s true. Some of “favorites” are the “phobias”-homophobia, Islamophobia, etc. First, I’m not afraid of any limp-wristed purse-swinging lisping sodomite, and secondly, only the left would be foolish enough to have not have righteous fear of those who want to cut their heads off and throw them from tall buildings-and that’s just the ones who announce their intentions. then there are the “good ones”, like the couple who recently murdered 14 people and wounded 1 others, and when people who knew them were interviewed, many of them expressed the view that they’d never have guessed that this couple were “those kind of Muslims”, they seemed like such nice quiet people.
“Despite” his call for a Muslim entry ban? My God, these reporters are out-of-touch with the American people. Half the public is for it, but they insist it’s a “fringe” position. In my opinion, if there’s a disturbing “fringe” in this country, it’s the press.
But Je$$e Jack$on can say “Hymietown” and still have the media running to him for his opinion on “racism”.
Well I made a right mess of my post #11, I hope you’re able to decipher it, lol.
LOL
Trump has torn up the media and the left PC and Racist card!
:)
Average Americans identify with Trump because we have all had thoughts similar or parallel to his.
The character assassinations come out and Americans are disgusted by it. Everyone that has ever agreed with Trump gets lumped in that category.
All the attacks do is prove that the MSM and current admin are not friends.
We've been manipulated by those NH polls for so many elections. Those that want to set the agenda poll "Republican activists" or whatever they call it. Real people are fired up this time, and hopefully those sellouts won't control the outcome.
Soon many will be saying that Trump is making Christie look like the eventual nominee...
It seems like the news media and their Trump is an Islamophobe mantra is completely disconnected from the public. I honestly think a temporary hold on allowing Muslims in this country until we figure out how best to vet them is a great idea. Too bad the media and other candidates is trying to use it to damage Trump. Trump need to get his message out on this pronto that the vetting isn’t working and we need to do something different.
But, I thought this was Jeb’s state?
