Republican officials and leading figures in the party's establishment are now preparing for the possibility of a brokered convention as Donald Trump continues sit atop the polls and the presidential race.

And they wonder why they’re hated. On second thought, they don’t care that they’re hated.
Well, Trump endorsed Romney.
Just proves that Trump is WAAAAY more loyal to the Republican Party than they are EVER going to be to him.
Thank you. So many are my candidate or nothing and that will result in Bush or Hillary. I also would support Trump, Cruz, even Carson or Paul. But if they manage an establishment flunkies, I"m out.
After watching the news today, I am making sure I have my ballot for the CO Rep primary....
Haven’t voted in a primary in a while... but I will this year, if I can (I voted in a primary while still living in Denver).
Anyway, I get calls from the Reps all the time asking for money, etc... so I hope I will be able to vote to give it back to them. ;)
Last night, listening to the Canadian news... they were saying that “European leaders are lining up against Trump.”
And I was remembering being a college student in Germany when Reagan was president (he was the first person I voted for!)...everyone HATED him... And I thought to myself, hey, if the world hates some American, it’s usually because that person loves America.
My daughter said, “Are you serious? You like Trump? Why?”
I said, “Because he puts America first.” Then I laughed to myself, realizing that it is his slogan, I think...? But that is the thing I think when I hear him talk about the issues of the day. He doesn’t equivocate, he doesn’t dance around things. He is clear. He loves America and is sick and tired of people apologizing for it.
Particularly our president, who bows and scrapes to others at the first opportunity.
GOP, you do this at your own peril!!!
There is chaos in the Republican party, and it looks pathetic.
But really, there is chaos among losers because suddenly, they have a winner on their hands. A winner who cannot be controlled and who has the actual interests of the country in his heart and mind.
But the bargaining consists of buying off/intimidation and who knows what else they would come up with. blackmail maybe?
++++
I think the winner of the nomination will be selected over drinks at 4:00 in the morning. But if all goes right it will be Trump and Cruz a couple others making the decision.
“2016 Trump wins primaries
2016 GOPe stiffs Trump and gives Bush the nomination
2016 Trump goes third party
2016 Trump wins the election
2017 Trump is focused on by the GOPe, the Republicans in Congress refuse to deal with him.
2018 70% of Republicans are voted out of office, and replaced with people from Trumpââ¬â¢s new party ... “

LOL... I started smiling right after that. People think it’s crazy, but it has happened before.
I need to review my American history on the Whig party. :)
I would so love to see that.
But instead, the 'Rats go into foaming rage every time Cruz or Trump is mentioned as a possible GOP Presidential nominee.
---- I'll take "1+1=2" for $500, Alex. ----
Yes, that might not be a bad idea.
No, you need a majority of the delegates. If not on the first, then on a subsequent ballot.
You are so right. Anyone who thinks Cruz would support Trump is dreaming.
Ah, I see by then that my primary vote (CO) won’t matter. :)
If it does, it if could help in some way, I’d love to know about it (people here are so knowledgeable about arcane points of politics, it amazes me).
Trump 42% Cruz 38%
Rubio 17%
All Others 13%Really, what can the GOPe do with that?
If by GOPe you mean Bush, Grahm and whoever, nothing. But remember many on these threads consider Cruz and Rubio unacceptable.
No. Obviously not. The candidate with a majority of delegates gets the nomination. In a multi-candidate race, that the candidate with the most delegates may not obtain a majority is not inconceivable. Thus, a brokered convention.
Me too.
That would be awesome, but it’s not going to happen that way.
Trump my very well be POTUS, but he will be opposed from all sides. He will have a very difficult Presidency as would Ted Cruz. Sadly, they will be able to accomplish very little.
There is a sizable chunk of the electorate that is pissed off that is fueling the Trump surge that wants the establishment out. But as whole, we are probably only 25%, maybe 30% of the total electorate. The vast majority is just fine with the establishment in control.
It’s going to be tough in 2016. I think Hillary has a lock on 48% of the vote already and 266 electoral votes. It will boil down to 3 states. Trump, or any Republican, will have to win all the Romney states and VA, FL and OH to pull it off, and those three states get bluer each election.
I’m not trying to be a downer. I’m just not going be caught up and believe a huge landslide will take place. The demographics are heavily in the Democrats favor, especially in the cities and suburbs. More Hispanic voters, more Asian voters, more younger socialistic voters. Add that up with a more conservative older generation that is passing away and you have your Democrat majority.
Not saying Trump, or any Republican, can’t win. Just saying it will be very, very difficult.
Word needs to get out that if GOPe goes nuclear, they are electing Hillary, not Trump. They’d try to spin it that Trump went Independent and elected Hillary but that’s a lie.
We should start challenging this meme now. The left waits until the last minute to spring their surprises because there’s not time to really counter it with all the chaos.
Rubio has no chance if Cruz and Trump both have more delegates than he does.
In the case of Trump or Cruz the likely winner is the delegate with the most votes. Can Cruz win over Tump delegates if they are released by Trump. I think so. And the opposite holds true as well.
