A burglary suspect has been attacked and killed by an 11-foot alligator while trying to escape from police officers.
The remains of 22-year-old Matthew Riggins, a resident of Palm Bay, Florida, were found in a lake in Barefoot Bay on November 23, ten days after he was reported missing.
On the evening of November 10 local residents in Barefoot Bay had called the police to report two men dressed in black who'd been acting suspiciously behind their homes.
Police launched a search with a helicopter and a K9 unit and, according to deputies, Riggins called his girlfriend on the phone to tell her he and an accomplice were being chased by authorities.
Police believe Riggins then jumped over a fence to hide in a lake - at which point he encountered the alligator.
"He probably went into the lake to hide from the officers and the dog, and came across that gator," said Major Tod Goodyear of Brevard County Sheriff's Office. "To hide somewhere to try and get away, and then meeting up with an animal like that, no, I've never had that happen before."

Crime doesn’t pay.
Some days you get the gator...some days the gator gets you.
That’ll teach him.
This is the second guy today to go along with a few others in the previous days.
Maybe the CDC should investigate....
Gator: “I want my money back...I ordered a burger!
What about his “smart” phone? Does it still work?
He should have yelled “Hands up- don’t bite”.
I’m sure he was just trying to work his way through college, now he is just working his way through a gater.
Well, it’s all your fault, Major! If your people hadn’t been chasing him, he’d still be alive today! /s;)
“I’m just devastated... The last thing he said to me was ‘see you later’ - “
...LOL!!
After the alligator was euthanized by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, forensic investigators found the burglary suspect's hand and foot inside the reptile's stomach, officials said.
It was determined that Riggins drowned as a result of the attack by the alligator.
'He hid in the wrong place,' Laura Farris, a Barefoot Bay resident told Bay News 9."
The real hamburglar!
Instant Karma’s gonna get you.
