Sears has been crashing for the past decade.
The retailer, which also owns Kmart, reported a loss of $454 million in the third quarter. The massive loss is the latest in 10 years of declining same-store sales.

The K-Mart on Guam is a God send.
Oh ,that must be why they stopped calling to sell us insurance on our Stove
Good. They stink. With Home Depot, Amazon, Walmart, no need for Sears anymore.
Haven’t se foot in a Sears in years. Mainly because they tend to be stores in the mall and I hate malls.
Good. When I was in school and wife and l were both working they wouldn’t extend any credit. Avoid them if at all possible since.
Good. they have failed to honor their warranty of a furnace they installed this summer.
I’m no professional mechanic or anything but I kinda like the idea of lifetime warranty on Craftsman HAND tools (not power tools or outdoor equipment - I have one of their snowblowers and I’m sorry I didn’t spend a little more for an Ariens). Perhaps Craftsman can spin off and survive? Dunno.
K-mart? good too.
Tim Allen sure hopes so.
When the Kmart stopped selling guns for political reasons back in the day, I decided I wouldn’t darken their door. Never did since.
Are they still around? The one in my town closed.
How much profit is their in pandering to the politically correct? Not much I guess.
Sears? Used to go there all the time for tools, appliances and clothes until they filled their shelves with useless chinese crap with no warranty. Same thing. They closed too as far as I know.
K.
When I was in college, they sent me a pre-approved letter, and then declined to issue the card when I mailed it back in. At the time, they were putting short form applications in newsmagazines. A friend tore one out, handed it to me, and told me to mail that one in. A few weeks later, the Sears card showed up.
Their 3 year batteries seem to last about 2 years, so I’ve gotten several free replacements. Apparently their warranties are based on a theory that when a car is old enough to need a new battery, folks aren’t going to keep it more than a couple of more years anyway.
Aww.
Sears used to be good for me to park by the door cuz there’s no business, run in and buy some little old lady clothes for my mom.
Last time I was there I didn’t see a thing I would want her to wear. So there ya go.
sears and jcp kept dinosaur dept store models. didn’t renovate, had massive overhead, and couldn’t convince people to come to them over other places.
thank god fedgov_ass is not forcing us to bail them out because they are not too big to fail.
>> Perhaps Craftsman can spin off and survive?
I hope so.
They sell some Craftsman tools at Ace Hardware now, for what that’s worth.
We have had good luck with Kenmore appliances too.
Craftsman is offered through Ace stores now. I still won’t buy the stuff they sell- I’m a woodworker, and I expect my tools to work properly, and hold up to heavy use.
Sears Credit, the only place that ever fired me. The holidays that year were over. Good riddance to them!
Funny you should say that about Sears credit. Same here. I graduated in June 1973 and took a field service job in the energy industry. Went to Sears to buy a LOT of tools and tried to open a charge account. I had a pretty good credit record at the time because of a used motorcycle purchase. They turned me down cold. After my income went up, they came begging to me year after year to take their credit card. I immensely enjoyed telling them to F off because they had failed me when I needed them. To this day, I’ve NEVER had a Sears credit card.
They do make some of the best garden hoses available, however.
This is sad, if only for sentimental and historical reasons. They were the pioneers of retailing. They sent out their catalogs and delivered to barely civilized boondocks out in the great plains where people really had few options. By doing that they created the idea of America being one giant marketplace. Just like how the internet spawned industries no one. could have concieved of at the time, Sears is a child of the railroads and telegraph.

Lucky you. They must’ve pulled three hundred boiler room spammers off of YOUR account and put ‘em on OURS — they’ve been non-stop about renewing our fridge service contract!
