President Obama on the Shooting in San Bernardino
The White House ^ | December 2, 2015 at 5:42 PM ET | Tanya Somanader, The White House

Summary: President Obama speaks about today's shooting in San Bernardino, California.

A horrific shooting in San Bernardino, California has claimed the lives of at least 14 people. Details are still emerging, and federal and local law enforcement are on the ground to secure the area.

In an interview with CBS, President Obama spoke about the ongoing situation in California and the unacceptable pattern of mass shootings the U.S. is facing. Watch it:

Here is a transcript of the President's comments:

"It's still an active situation. FBI is on the ground offering assistance to local officials as they need it. It does appear that there are going to be some casualties. And, obviously our hearts go out to the victims and the families. The one thing we do know is that we have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world. And there are some steps we could take not to eliminate every one of these mass shootings, but to improve the odds that they don't happen as frequently: common-sense gun safety laws, stronger background checks.

And for those who are concerned about terrorism, some may be aware of the fact that we have a no-fly list where people can't get on planes, but those same people who we don't allow to fly could go into a store right now in the United States and buy a firearm and there's nothing that we can do to stop them. That's a law that needs to be changed.

And so my hope is that we're able to contain this particular shooting, and we don't yet know what the motives of the shooters are, but what we do know is that there are steps we can take to make Americans safer, and that we should come together in a bipartisan basis at every level of government to make these rare as opposed to normal. We should never think that this is something that just happens in the ordinary course of events, because it doesn't happen with the same frequency in other countries."

Last May, two muslim terrorists dressed in body armor and armed with multiple pistols, rifles and 1,500 rounds of ammunition, opened fire at a public event in Garland, Texas. The only ones killed were the two terrorists. Why? Because there happened to be someone at the Garland event who could shoot back.

Terrorists are now being more careful about picking schools and other gun free zones where they won’t have to worry about that.

If mass killings are not acceptable to Hussain Obama, why is he importing mass killers wholesale?

[[It is still an active situation. And I have ordered the FNI to STOP saying he thinks it might be terrorism, and instead try to persuade the reporters and public that these were just two crazy kids, madly in love with each other, and who had a bonnie and clyde complex]]

There- all fixed

He is throwing that ‘no fly list’ out there just like last May when he told Christians not to get on their high horse. Translation.. For you patriots with guns, you allow terrorists to get guns. It is all baloney. Drain all the power from this bum.

These murderers were created by Obama and the
US Congress by funding al Qaeda, ISIS, and
leaving the borders open to all Islamic terrorists.

How many more must die before there is accountability?

If people on the no fly list are allowed to buy guns, why does Barak Obama’s Justice Department OK it? One would think that is what a background check was for. Unless the focus was on gun registration, not criminals.

I hate to say it, but only a dense person would say this because it shows that the government is so inept at vetting people that they allow a person on a no fly list to pass a background check when they go to buy a gun

That is just an admission of stunning incompetence by our government and shows a complete Lack of ability to stop terrorists from buying guns EVEN THOUGH we have a law inplace that supposedly prevents them from doing so!

Cripes! He’s up their crowing about his incompetence!

The notion of applying the no-fly list to NICS checks has an unintended consequence: subsequent litigation will compel revealing the content of the no-fly list and how names are put on it - something TSA et al have STRONGLY & successfully resisted doing so far. They REALLY don’t want to reveal anything about the no-fly list.
