“We don’t know ... what those motives were, but whatever they were, it’s unacceptable, and it’s horrific and wrong,” the Republican presidential hopeful told reporters here before a town hall.
Cruz is among the first — if not the first — GOP candidate to denounce the shooting, which happened Friday in Colorado Springs and left a police officer and two civilians dead. A suspect, Robert Dear, has been taken into custody.
"I have spent much of my adult life working in law enforcement, working against murderers and those who commit violent crime, and that one officer lost his life is particularly tragic," Cruz said.
Cruz appeared to be the first GOP candidate to directly address the shooting Saturday morning, when he tweeted that he was "Praying for the loved ones of those killed, those injured & first responders who bravely got the situation under control in Colorado Springs."
Cruz has been perhaps the harshest critic of Planned Parenthood in the GOP field, especially after the release of undercover videos showing officials with the group discussing business practices. Cruz has referred to the organization as an "ongoing criminal enterprise," and he regularly promises to initiate a federal investigation into the group as one of his first acts in office if elected president.
Disclosure: Planned Parenthood was a corporate sponsor of The Texas Tribune in 2011. A complete list of Tribune donors and sponsors can be viewed here.

This would have been appropriate, “I am particularly interested in this loss of life. When I have more facts at hand I will have comments to make. At this time I do not have enough information to address the issue. I will have no further comment at this time.”
The loss of all innocent life is tragic. But those who lose their lives by purposely putting themselves in harm’s way to effect the protection of other innocents imitate Christ with their selflessness. They deserve special honor. Just as those who serve in the military deserve special honor.
LMAO
So it’s your opinion that graphic is accurate, and yet Ted is at 10% and Trump is at about 35%?
Isara, it’s a hoot watching you flail around trying to pump hot air into a guy’s campaign who can’t inflate his balloon.
Before all the evidence has come in?
When three people die in an incident, you don’t pick one out to call them particularly tragic.
All loss of life is tragic. And tryin got bring the military into a situation that has nothing whatsoever to do with the military is shameful.
That officer’s life was tragic, but no more tragic that the loss of the other two.
None of those lives was worth more or less than the others.
You didn’t know that?
In all fairness, Ted didn’t either.
Evidently your and my comments on this thread are being construed as anti-Cruz, when in fact we both realize the facts are sketchy and not being fully disclosed in media reports. The media is trying to get Ted to say something that will come back to bite him later on. We’re not attacking Cruz, only suggesting that commenting at all until all the facts come out potentially plays into the hands of an hostile media looking for anything to crucify him with.
But the Planned Abortionhood people need to understand: Chopping up babies and serving the parts in smoothies at baseball games will eventually piss someone off.
Sadly once he did comment, he’s open to review on it.
I think he made some key mistakes.
In a world where every burp from Trump is cause for reams worth of comments, I think Ted will survive an honest opinion or two.
“Particularly interested” in the loss of life?
You are kidding right?
ALL loss of life of innocent American citizens must be condemned. I don't care if the victims are far left, lamestreams or whatever, or why the victims were killed. For any member of congress, let alone presidential candidate to come out and say they are merely “interested” in the killings. That’d be just ridiculous.
That officer didn’t have to be there. Who knows how many other lives law enforcement saved that day? That officer gave his life in the effort to protect others. The other deaths were tragic. His is noble. It is analogous to the service given by the members of the armed forces. That your political bias for your candidate blinds you to this reality is what is truly shameful.
I stand with law enforcement against the criminal element in our society. I honor the love and devotion they give when they put their lives on the line to protect innocent life.
So your answer to the crimes of the Planned Parenthood creeps is to go out and carry out extra judicial killings? Where does that stop at?
How many people did the guy shoot in the “clinic”?
So I can expect all who are critical of Cruz’s response to apply the same level of scrutiny and second guessing to all that Trumps says?
That would be target rich.
Whoa, sailor.
Didn’t say it was MY answer.
But it sure was HIS.
And that is something the left needs to seriously consider. Not in the gun-ban way, either, because that’s never gonna happen.
Let the enemedia stew on that!
