Syrian Rebels Destroy Russian Helicopter With US-Supplied Anti-Tank Missile

Earlier today, just hours after Turkey shot down a Russian Su-24 warplane near the border with Syria, the FSA (more specifically Alwiya al-Ashar) released footage of fighters celebrating over the body of a dead Russian pilot. 

The group would later claim to have executed both pilots after they ejected from the plane and attempted to parachute to safety. 

In a second serious escalation, another FSA-aligned group claimed to have shot down a Russian search and rescue helicopter.

You can read our full coverage here, but just note that if the FSA's 1st Coastal Brigade did indeed use an American-made TOW to destroy a Russian aircraft, it confirms exactly what we said on Monday when we detailed the American, Turkish, and Saudi-sponsored program to supply anti-tank missiles to the Syrian opposition: 

Obviously, this is the very definition of absurdity. It would be bad enough if the US were supplying TOWs to anyone in Syria. But this is Washington and Riyadh handing anti-tank missiles to forces that are firing them at the Iranians who are operating under cover of Russian airstrikes. Just to drive that home: the US is waging war against Iran and Russia with but one degree of separation.

I have a hunch that Turkey and Saudi Arabia are pulling a lot of the strings in this WOT and they are NOT on our side. We should immediately reconcile any differences we have with Russia and fight these middle eastern animals hand in hand with the Russians then divide it up like Europe was after WWII

Protocol I, Article 42, of the Geneva Conventions explicitly forbids attacking parachutists who eject from damaged airplanes, and surrendering parachutists once landed.

Senator John McCain became the highest ranking US officials to meet with Gen. Salem Idris, the leader of the Supreme Military Council of the Free Syrian Army.

New Syrian Forces are part of Division 30. Division 30 is part of the Free Syrian Army. The New Syrian Forces are the more highly trained of the Free Syrian Army - the FSA who McCain vetted, who he said are trustworthy "because I know them".

This is not the first incidence of arms going to AQ, typically by surrendering to AQ but sometimes by selling to AQ. Here Here Here

Sometimes FSA and AQ work together. We have clear instructions from our [al-Qaida] leadership that if the FSA need our help we should give it.

if the video is correct, they didn’t shoot it down, it was parked. Frankly, if the Russians are on their game, the location from where the shot was made should have received a celebratory beat down shortly thereafter. It’s only a couple or three kilometers from the impact site, and hideously exposed. And there’s a bunch of fiber leading straight back to the spot.
