The son of infamous mob figure John Gambino says the La Cosa Nostra is ready to fight ISIS in New York City â and that the Mafia can do a better job of protecting the city from terror attacks than the NYPD.
Giovanni Gambino said during an interview with NBC that âthe rise of global terrorism gives the Mafia a chance to show its good side.â
âWe make sure our friends and families are protected from extremists and terrorists, especially . . . the Islamic State,â Gambino said.

I remember that the Mob was after “Son of Sam” because he was hurting business.
He’s probably just talking out his butt, but I’d rather have the Italians running the criminal underworld than the Bloods and Crips, who’d probably help the terrorists.
ISIS is bad for businesses.
Then when Trump takes office in Jan. 2017, they can go back to protecting their families and friends....
...this message brought to you by a TRUMP supporter...
I believe this, especially since there are lots of Jews in the mafia.
Nice mosque ya got dere ... be a shame if sumfin’ happen to it ...
It’s strange as I was conducting a thought exercise wondering who would line up against militant Muslims. Currently police would try to include them by making Muslim officers who then would, at least secretly, enforce Sharia law rather than written law. The answer I came up with was gangs and organized crime. It’s not that gangs and organized crime would be on the citizen’s side. It’s that gangs, organized crime and Muslims are likely to come into conflict and the former will shoot back, or proactively attack much more often citizens or our PC government.
The La Cosa Nostra took out the NAZIs in NY City in WWII.
Why is there a picture of John Gotti, when the article quotes John Gambino?
I don’t doubt the ‘60s mob could have protected NYC, but there is little left of the mob any more. Since they are not governed by at least SOME laws, as the NYPD is, yes, they could take care of ISIS, IF the ‘60s mob were still around. After all, they ‘took care’ of a President in the ‘60s.
“Now yous can’t leave.”
Gotti of course was the head of the Gambino crime family in New York. But having his photo there for this story is confusing, especially since John Gambino is only a distant cousin of the infamous Carlo Gambino for who the family is named.
Every neighborhood should have a good godfather!
Carlo Gambino? He was the old man. Died in 1976, I think.
Petty crime is rare in mafia strongholds (like the Vegas strip) because dangerous streets are bad for business.
Similarly, during the Cold War, a lot of mafiosi supported conservative politicians (in spite of the politician's tougher "law and order" rhetoric) because Communism would have been even worse for business than a few token crackdowns by the FBI.
“John Gambino (born Giovanni Gambino on August 22, 1940 in Palermo, Sicily), is an American mobster. He became a made member of the Gambino crime family in 1975 and a capodecina or captain, and head of the crime family’s Sicilian faction, appointed by family boss John Gotti in 1986, according to Mafia turncoat Sammy Gravano.[1][2]
Together with his younger brothers Rosario and Joseph Gambino he formed a faction in the crime family known as the Cherry Hill Gambinos for their country seat in the New Jersey town of that name.
Although they were distant cousins of family boss Carlo Gambino, they did not owe him allegiance. They were Sicilian Mafiosi, made men from Palermo, whose father had brought the family to New York in 1964. The Gambino brothers ran the Cafe Valentino on 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn (later renamed as Cafe Giardino).[3] ...”

First the Russians, now the Mafia! Talk about being a pariah when every other group is getting together to destroy you. If only the Democrats would get on board.
Yup. Kept the docks inthe U.S., all of it, SAFE.
