A white man punched and attempted to choke a black protester who was thrown on the ground at a Donald Trump rally in Birmingham on Saturday morning, as an onlooker yelled, "Don't choke him! Don't choke him!"
The protester, identified by local media as well-known activist Mercutio Southall Jr., started shouting during Trump's speech and could be heard yelling, "Black lives matter!" A fight broke out around him, prompting Trump to briefly halt the rally and demand removal of Southall.
"Get him the hell out of here, will you please?" Trump said.
The crowd alternated between cheering and booing as security officers pushed their way through the crowd of several thousand. Southall fell to the ground and was surrounded by several white men who appeared to be kicking and punching him, according to video captured by CNN. A Washington Post reporter in the crowd watched as one of the men put his hands on Southall's neck, and heard a female onlooker repeatedly shout: "Don't choke him!"
Southall has had many run-ins with the police and has even been arrested as he fights against what he says is unfair treatment of blacks.
Several bystanders were alarmed that Southall would be severely hurt, and the security officers quickly moved to get him off the ground and walk him out of the building. Meanwhile, Trump recounted how Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders recently responded to Black Lives Matter activists who came onto the stage of one of his events.
"You see, he was politically correct," Trump said. "Two young women came up to the podium. They took over his microphone. I promise you, that's not going to happen with me. I promise you. Never going to happen. Not going to happen. Can't let that stuff happen."

Love it.
It looks like security is being very nice to him.
Specifically, he’s not bleeding.
He was the guinea pig to see what would happen if Blacklivesmeanzero tried to stage and action at a Trump event.
THere are two options now. Either they won’t try it again, or they are going to go all in to create trouble. We will see what they are going to do.
That black man does not have the right to disrupt a Trump rally. He can hold his own rally somewhere else.
The tricks of their ilk won’t work with Trump. They are far to used to pu$$y RINO ‘concern trolls’.
Trump doesn’t give a rat’s patooty about any of it and the media can try as they will - water off a duck’s back.
This is why those veins in their necks are popping all over the place. It does a body good.
Hum' where's the video...?
Betcha, it's more like one guy yelling at him...
There are many many MSM stories lately following the discredited scripts of the past:
1) The story is prepared
2) Agents provocateur are sent forth
3) Whether they get their scripted response, or not, the story is reported
4) Because it’s not the accuracy of the story it’s the seriousness of the charge
This is not coincidence.
It’s the same here but I kept it PG.
;D
Or had a rebel flag sticker on his truck?
That’s a well fed bunch of people.
A sad sad fact. Some work their entire lives earning modest incomes, never strike it rich, suffer from home devaluation but still manage to save bit for retirement. At the best they lower their standard of living a bit and go on. Most suffer from increasingly lower standards of living.
“who appeared to be”
From where you’re sitting, looking at your screen, you could rightly say that I “appear to be a Salamander”.
See how that works?
:)
Staged or not, it just bought trump about 10 more points in the polls.
So, WaPo cites as their source for this account, a reporter from... the WaPo. Another example of the fine "journalism" we have in America today. I mean, I'm sure they wouldn't make anything up, would they?
This protester said he was filming himself and other protesters with his phone when the altercation started, so he should show the video he’s got. The Washington Compost story says that reporters were not supposed to be outside of a designated media area (instituted on Wednesday, the night that a guy convicted of trying to bomb a Marine recruiting center was arrested at Trump’s rally - timing that the WP reporters failed to mention), and CNN and the Compost were only able to see/record anything because they were in the audience instead of where they were supposed to be.
So it does seem staged, at first glance. Especially if, as somebody said here, CNN happened to be focused right on this guy when everything started. They broke the rules to be where they were, and the reason seems to be so they could videotape this altercation.
Have these reporters not seen the footage of the Muslim 9-11 celebrations in Dearbornistan, MI?
I’m sure it was the same folks who spat on John Lewis during the anti-Obamacare rally in DC a while back.
Dude belongs in jail.

On July 4, 2014, Southall was involved in a two-hour standoff with police. At 7:03 a.m., officers arrived on the scene at Fourth Street and Richard Arrington Boulevard, where they said Southall was armed with a rifle and another gun in a holster.” The man was saying he had a right to bear arms, and had second amendment rights,” said Lt. Sean Edwards said at the time.
Southall surrendered at 10:35 a.m. and police said they were sending him for medical evaluation. “I had a shotgun on my shoulder and a copy of the constitution and I was teaching people about the law,’’ he said. “Because I know the law and know my rights, that’s what makes me a threat. That’s what makes me a bad person. That’s what makes me dangerous.”
Five months later, in December 2014, Southall made headlines again when he and another man were arrested following a Black Lives Matter protest and march at a Homewood Walmart. About 40 people were involved in a peaceful protest, but trouble broke up when the group began to disperse. Southall, and Randall Corey Anderson, 31, of Georgia were taken into custody, and the confrontation was caught on video that got attention on social media.
Anderson was charged was criminal trespass; Southall with criminal trespass, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana. The charges were eventually dismissed for both.
In April 2015, Southall was arrested during a Black Lives Matter protest downtown, a protest that started in front of police headquarters. They carried a banner up and down Fourth Avenue, literally stepping in front of cars, pickups and 18-wheelers so they couldn’t pass.
Protester Avee-Ashanti Shabazz, a co-founder of the Birmingham movement - was handcuffed and put into the police van. Southall, again, went down in dramatic fashion. He was on the ground, surrounded by officers while he hurled curse words and racially-based accusations against them. Misdemeanor charges are still pending in that case.
Just last month, Southall was arrested and tased again during a protest in front of the Homewood City Jail following the in-custody death of 18-year-old Kindra Chapman, who committed suicide hours after being arrested on a robbery charge. Southall and five others were taken into custody after police say they walked in U.S. 31, once again blocking traffic. That case has not yet gone to court either.
He’s had other run-ins with police too, but to date has no criminal convictions. Just recently, several charges against him were dismissed for other incidents he’s had with police — including a scuffle that led to he and a police officer tumbling off the front porch of a Birmingham home.
Food stamps and 300 plus. Very sad.
Trump should announce before the next rally for everyone to shout
GET A JOB!!! at all future disrupters.
That should keep them far far away.
Trump saved his a$$ by having security remove him
Go Trump
The black guy is a fat slob...and on food stamps. I guess he sits around plotting his next uncivil disturbance while eating tons of fast food. What a worthless putz.
