Um, they were thinking he would continue his Conservative record of service in Baton Rouge as he has in DC. Did you see the two liberal RINOs who split the vote with Vitter promptly did all they could to elect the leftist Democrat Hillary/Zero-approved Edwards ?
There is no such thing as a Conservative Democrat anymore. The most Conservative Democrat in DC votes like the far-left of the GOP.
Bingo. I hope the jackasses choke on their new Zero/Hillary-approved Governor. Louisiana voters went full retard tonight with Fast Eddie’s pathological liar cousin.
Louisiana voters have to throw tantrums and revert back to Huey Long populism every so often. It’s in the state’s genetic code or something.
It kind of like your dog that has to wallow in dead animal carcasses, and then comes back home stinking and expecting you to bathe him.
The Deadhead Caucus (teacher’s union, court house crowd, state employees) were highly motivated for Edwards. They think he’ll be able to fully fund their gold-plated retirements and medical benefits.
It’s crazy with LA going back and forth between reformists and corrupt business-as-usual types over the decades and reformists can’t get two Governors in a row at all.
1971; 1975 - Edwards (Corrupt)
1979 - Treen (Reform)
1983 - Edwards (Corrupt)
1987 - Roemer (Reform)
1991 - Edwards (Corrupt)
1995; 1999 - Foster (Reform)
2003 - Blanco (Corrupt)
2007; 2011 - Jindal (Reform)
2015 - Edwards (Corrupt)
The big dummies got their corrupt phony Guv, but didn’t know how to get like-minded crooks downballot. I hope the new Attorney-General Landry gets about as far up Johnny Bel’s ass so that he can scratch his tonsils. He’s going to be the next Governor and clean out the mess Edwards is about to make.
Foster served two terms, from 1995 to 2003. While he wasn’t personally corrupt, he had plenty of factotums surrounding him who were. He had a couple of conservative traits - opposition to trial lawyers, and 100% pro-gun. But he gave the public employee unions everything they wanted and then some. We’re overrun with them in this state. He also pushed for tax increases both income and gasoline.
Jindal was two terms.
I noted Foster and Jindal served two terms above. I said there hasn’t been two reformist Governors elected in a row (meaning one succeeding another), not in the modern era, at least. The closest I could tell to having 2 ostensible “reformers” in a row (opposed to the Longs) would’ve been Sam Jones in 1939 and Jimmie Davis in 1943.
That’s accurate. Davis was sort of a reformer.
Edwards will be one term. There will be a special session of the legislature first thing next year will all sorts of tax increases on the agenda. All to pay off road contractors, state employees, trial lawyers, etc. He may get most of them, but it will be a bruising battle.
So the taxpayers will get pissed first thing.
Then he won’t be able to pay off everyone like they expect. There ain’t enough money in the world to do that.
So then they will become disillusioned by this time next year, and start sniping at him.
While I never was a big Walker for Prez supporter, I admired how he took on the unions in Wisconsin.
Itâs what happens when you run a flawed candidate.

I hope the same applies to the Dem’s presidential candidates, as they are all flawed.
if either angelle of dardene faced bel edwards, we would have won. in fact, if the jungle primary was between vitter and edwards, the dem would win outright.

Doesn’t it just ruin your day when the CAP key on your keyboard doesn’t work?
The Cajuns are like other minorities and always vote for their own people.
“Iâm not making this up, 3 elections in a row with the GOP winning the same number as the year “
Tee hee, too bad it keep up.
Too bad IT DIDN’T keep up I mean.
And enough with the weird copy/paste symbols already, ugh.
You disagree on what? Or just generally disagree?
1948 would’ve been the best year ever (since there weren’t 50 states yet). ;-)
Scalise has the best voting record in the LA House delegation, but he’ll likely stay in his safe House seat and leadership position. We’ll likely see a couple of less reliably conservative congressmen run (Boustany and Fleming ome to mind).
Had Elbert Guillory not been crushed in the Lt. Gov. jungle primary he’d be my first choice.
Foster quarreled with Vitter too when Vitter was in the state House, but Foster still came forth in November to endorse Vitter for governor. Something Jindal declined to do
Fleming is definitely more conservative than Scalise. The most conservative choice though might be Tea Partier Col. Rob Maness.
I remember that well. Foster stabbed us social conservatives in the back when he took office in 1996, and reneged on his promise to stop Organized Gambling. We organized a presser on the State Capitol steps, and Vitter, then a state rep. showed up. I always reminded him about that every time I saw him, and told him I very much appreciated his backbone.
Back when Organized Gambling showed up in the early 90s, they said the taxes from it would keep the state flush with money.
Here it is 20 years later, we have casinos out the wazoo, and the state is STILL broke.
Guillory has the problem of age, unfortunately. The Dems easily reclaimed his Senate seat.
