Trump names Cruz when asked about VP spot
The Hill ^ | Nov 17, 2015 | Mark Hensch

Donald Trump on Tuesday named Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) when asked about his possible running mate in 2016.

“Ted Cruz is now agreeing with me 100 percent,” he said when asked about his vice presidential pick, according to Lifezette.

“Well, I like him,” Trump told radio host Laura Ingraham during her broadcast. "He’s backed everything I’ve said.” Unlike most of the Republican presidential hopefuls, Cruz has mostly refrained from attacking Trump, even appearing alongside him at a rally in September against the Iran nuclear deal.

The pair has also struck similar tones on topics such as border security and illegal immigration.

Still, Trump suggested late Monday that he will turn on Cruz if he becomes a threat to his front-runner status.

“If he catches on, I guess we’ll have to go to war,” he told host Joe Kernen on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT TICKET, for the following reasons:

1) No one can claim that Trump is a bible-thumping born-again Christian who feels it’s necessary to turn the clock back 50 years on women’s rights. In other words, Trump brings in MILLIONS of otherwise-Democrats (i.e., Reagan Democrats, mostly lower/middle class whites that will vote Republican, if the Republicans ever bothered giving them something to vote for), while Cruz cannot, at least in this election cycle.

2) With any kind of moderate as VP, Trump will struggle, BIG TIME, in getting the Evangelical vote...he’s simply not one of them. But Cruz is.

3) Cruz gets vetted and known much better to this country and will have a damn good chance of picking up the top job, once Trump finishes his 8 years. At this point, to most people outside of our circle, Cruz is some kind of religious nut who can’t get along with anyone. That will change in 8 years, working with Trump.

4) All questions about whether Cruz meets nationality standards to be president will get answered, before the entire party commits to him at the top of the ticket. Nothing messy in this area, if he’s still VP in 2024, that means he can run for the top job, without a doubt.

5) Should Cruz actually win the presidency in 2016, there’s a good chance that Congress and the Courts will stop him at every move, and Cruz, given his tremendous respect for the Constitution and separation of powers, will allow it. Trump will do what he has to get things done, and considering the state of this country, our next president needs to apply some “extra-Constitutional” powers to right this country...we simply don’t have the luxury of doing it the right way, at this point.

This has been my DREAM TICKET.

They ALL have yuge egos. Because they are being backed by people with money, they need to kinda quell their egos. Trump is using his own money, he is what he is and that is a man whose worried about the American Idea. Read some of his books. He’s been worried for a good many years.

Yes, Cruz is pro life. I am sure you would not want him on the ticket.

>> this would leave Cruz in the drivers seat ‘24. And he’d be 50 years old.

Exactly.

Plus, talk about an ELECTABLE ticket! One that would campaign like they want to WIN. A ticket that would beat up the ‘rat at every turn instead of looking the other way like a “nice guy”.

I’d be happier if it were Cruz at the top, also — but I could definitely support Trump/Cruz if that’s how it shakes out.

Trump doesn’t need 8 years. Besides he’d be 77 at the end of a second term.

Given Trump's general health, energy levels, and ego, I doubt he'd step down after 4 years. Carl Icahn, someone he often refers to, is in his 80s and still going strong. Billionaires have access to healthcare that the rest of us can only dream about, which is why they tend to "stay young" a lot longer than the average Joe.

After 8 years of Trump the country will be ready for Cruz, and he'll have benefited immensely from serving as Trump's "apprentice". Win-win all around.

I pity you; that's a really LAME hill you're choosing to die on. So many more important issues confronting us today.

Its just as well then, I’m more concerned with someone who has the nations best interests rather than their own.

Still, we owe Trump a huge debt of gratitude for breaking the establishment’s grip on this election.

Trump is goading Cruz, IMHO.

‘..now agrees with every thing I say.”

I think it was a dig on Cruz suddenly adopting immigration when it proved that’s what the public wanted and just putting out an immigration policy that is almost verbatim what Trump put out months ago. Also now against Syrian refugees, a year or so ago he was not.

I’d walk on hot coals to vote for that ticket. The prospect of Cruz having 16 years in the White House on the national stage is delightful. I also suspect Trump would get a lot of good advice. And maybe even pull a Weekend at Bernie’s half the time, sitting a mannequin in the Oval Office while he jets off to Mar-a-lago and lets Cruz run the show.

Trump considers it an “attack” if you get close to him in the polls...
