French president calls Paris attacks ‘act of war’ by Islamic State [retaliation "merciless"]

PARIS - French President Francois Hollande decried Saturday the massacres across Paris as an "act of war" carried out by the Islamic State, amplifying signals of a major response from France after coordinated attacks that killed at least 127 people.

A day after declaring a nationwide emergency, Hollande said the attacks had been "organized and planned from outside" and vowed "merciless" retaliation.

The statement also marked the clearest sign that authorities are drawing links between Friday's carnage and the Islamic State despite any known claim of responsibility.

The attacks, Hollande said, were "committed by a terrorist army, the Islamic State group, a jihadist army, against France, against the values that we defend everywhere in the world, against what we are: A free country that means something to the whole planet."

At least one French-made bomb delivered by a French-made plane will hit Raqqa ... that will show them how the French fight when they get mad.

... will Europe (and Obama) still be insisting that “these attacks have nothing to do with Islam, and we must be sure that we don’t create Islamophobia”?

Like they do after every Islamic terrorist attack?

Then things settle down ... until the next Islamic terrorist attack, and then everyone’s asking again, “how could this happen?”

France has the capability of turning the ISIS capital into a smooth, glowing parking lot. Make it so.

The French have not had courage, fearlessness, or determination since 30 May 1431 when Joan of Arc departed this Earth. Unless Hollande goes looking for Joan, I don’t know where this is going to lead onto.

Oh gee but I thought they were refugees and should be welcome with open arms. What can go wrong.

Afraid to get my hopes up.

I hope he has a “who gives a @#$@$ about Assad” moment and starts to see our pResident for what he is.

I hope that somehow this spills into and foils the Iran treaty.

Still, it seems grim to get one’s hopes up due to a horrific incident. Many families are suffering today. And as lost as they are, most of us on this board have ancestors from Western Europe.

Outsiders who spoke French ? Welcome to your 50 year civil war. Would have been easier to kill your corrupt leaders a few years ago and deport the enemy. Oh well.....

France was a warrior nation long after Joan of Arc. France was broken in 1917. French soldiers have at time served with distinction since then as well, but they are now outliers in a culture that seems to have given up.

Don’t talk about it, just do it. The world is watching.

This is like Shen Vichy France led a “pitiless” war on the Nazis after the French army was evacuated to England.

Hope he means it. Words have meaning. Anything short of pitiless will now look pitiful.

Oh gee but I thought they were refugees and should be welcome with open arms. What can go wrong.

I just saw a post on Facebook from some unrepentant idiot saying this happened because the U.S. and Europe aren't being nice enough and aren't providing the resources to the Arabs for them to have adequate health care.

There are no words.

'Not since Joan of Arc?'

You never heard of the Napoleanic Wars or the Franco-Prussian War?

I don’t think Europe is prepared in any way for the kind of war that ISIS is dragging them into. I think they do not know themselves or their enemy.

Americans have a long memory of WWII which sidetracks WWI. Also, their behavior post-WWII hasn't been so great either. And do the French remember our great contributions in either war? No, they pretty much don't. Joan of Arc would be ashamed and castigate them.

I sadly have no faith that this “merciless war” will be much more than simply producing a lot of white flags.

Facebook is, as always, disgracing themselves over this issue. Europeans are less worried about ISIS and the murdered victims and are more concerned that someone will be mean to a refugee in Calais.

"This is like Shen Vichy"

It's not nice to be called a "son of a Vichy" in France I hear...
