Can Marco Rubio Beat Ted Cruz on Immigration?
Breitbart.com ^ | 13 Nov 2015 | Dan Riehl

In broader terms, Senators Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), both now competing for the Republican presidential nomination, seemed solidly defined on opposite ends of the political battle over immigration. Cruz was seen as the hardliner, Rubio the appeaser tied to the now infamous 2013 Gang of Eight legislation. With the two Senators headed for a one-on-one battle for the nomination in the view of many pundits, Rubio has gone on the attack, attempting to undermine Cruz’s immigration hardliner reputation. Rubio’s team released the video (below and in the Tweet below), claiming it shows Cruz supported the Gang of Eight legislation by offering an amendment to same. That’s true.

However, at one minute into the video, Cruz does say that his amendment would “remove” a path to citizenship for illegals, while at the same time, “bringing them out of the shadows.” That’s a nuanced position Cruz now seems to be claiming was meant to kill the legislation. In the video he claims his amendment was meant to get it through the House – where, for the record, it subsequently died without the Cruz amendment.

...

Meanwhile, as stated up front, Rubio has his own serious problems given his past positions. Changing them significantly for the politics of the primary may not be an easy sale; however, there’s no denying his solid rhetorical and political skills that could help him pull it off.

Rubio has now even gone so far as to claim people will have to be deported. In reality, that could mean anything from a few criminals, to significant numbers of illegals – basically, what Rubio seems to want to do is muddy the waters around him and Cruz on the issue.

1) Many conservatives are more concerned about issues other than immigration.
2) Many conservatives vote based on superficial personality projections..who appears more masculine, more decisive, better hair (or wig), better grammar, better delivery of memorized lines written by others.
3) Many conservatives are ambivalent on immigration. As with many topics, its all about how it is framed.
4) All candidates have the opportunity to enhance their immigration message. Many of us would like them to do so. a) No Welfare to immigrants: legal, illegal or naturalized.
b) No murderers, rapists, DUI drivers.
c) Only those who explicitly and demonstrably support the constitution, especially the first amendment: Freedom of speech, religion, assembly, etc.

Focus on the undesireables. Deport and keep them out. No refugee program for undesireables. Actively deport (or jail then deport) the 10% of true undesireables. Actively deport 1.1 million.

These are winning positions. To focus on 11 million is no focus at all.

All the anti Rubio campaigns need to do is a continuous loop of this picture titled: “They are not laughing WITH you, but AT you.”

Thanks for posting the link.

This solves a lot of the problem right from the get go.

End birthright citizenship. Birthright citizenship was not intended to legalize the children of people who are breaking the law by entering and staying in the country illegally. I will take steps to pass legislation or a constitutional amendment to end it.

It was a disgusting picture, I’m sure Cruz will use it.

In light of this terrorism carnage in France, the only ones who will shine are Cruz and Trump. The rest are branded as pro terrorist with loose immigration policies.

Rubio would be for amnesty if he could get away with it. Put him in the White House and he’ll be able to ‘get away with it’....

Between Rush’s revelation that illegal immigration is the key issue in this election and the Paris terrorist attacks, Rubio is headed back to single digits and hopefully, political oblivion.
