Houston Mayor Annise Parker wasnât exactly gracious in defeat, accusing those who opposed the cityâs transgender-rights ordinance of âdeliberate liesâ and predicting the cityâs economy would suffer as a result of the measureâs repeal.
In remarks shortly after Tuesdayâs balloting, Ms. Parker blamed the Houston Equal Rights Ordinanceâs lopsided loss on âa very small but determined group of right-wing ideologues and the religionist rightâ for waging âa campaign of fear-mongering and deliberate lies.â
The ordinance, named Proposition 1 on the city ballot, lost by 62 to 38 percent despite the strong support of national gay-rights organizations, who poured millions into the local campaign, as well as pro-business groups.
âAnd truly, unfortunately, I fear that this will have stained Houstonâs reputation as a tolerant, welcoming global city, and I absolutely fear that there will be a direct economic backlash as a result of this ordinance going into defeat,â Ms. Parker said in a video posted on KHOU-TV. âAnd thatâs sad for Houston and sad for all of us.â
The ordinance, passed by city council in 2014, gave protected class status based on 15 characteristics, including race, ethnicity, gender, age and religion, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity. Most of those are already listed under federal and state law.

Good idea, it wouldn’t hurt them any as they’re already full of shit.

I wonder(weird brain) what would happen at a NASCAR event if a Transgender Male. visited a women’s bathroom?
Would they leave ball-less?

If the city of Houston has tackled all of its major problems and this is the most pressing issue it faces, I look forward to my next visit.
Sylvester Turner had 32%
while Bill King had 25%
Urban vote vs Suburb vote
It wouldn’t be pretty, even if he was able to leave under his own power.
There are too many Houston voters who think there are no ramifications for who they elect, Parker is a prime example, promised rainbow and unicorns and all we get is greed, corruption and moral decline.
A video would run rampant, on YouTube!
my thoughts exactly, cue up all the leftist corps. weighing in how they are leaving the area because of intolerance. Sad for them they can’t focus on one person like they did with Pence.
Romans chapter 13?
It’s amazing how much money libs pour into Texas just to have their radical, extremist, morally corrupt policies defeated in overwhelming landslides. You’d think they’d want to avoid dumping that much money into a state that’s already putting their blue state economies to shame.
From HERO to ZERO.
She’ll be gone soon. The people who elected her are still there. They are the real problem.
Their economy might be hurt if Obama pulls all their school funding in protest.
If you didn’t think it was time to get the feds out of education before... The GOP needs to step up their rhetoric on schools. Kill Common Core and get the feds out so they can’t bribe schools into following radical leftist policy.
The question is why do the same people who correctly vote this crap down vote for her in the first place? Is it a lack of the GOP side calling out the Dims as the radical extremists that they are? The McCain/Obama problem?
Actually, tourism by families might go on the upswing, if they don’t feel like they will be threatened by a bunch of sicko queers.
Her list of charges are so 1990s.
wonderful, a mayor actually hoping for a boycott other city because she got put in her place by the voters. “Agree with me or suffer the wrath.”
That's why I don't "love the sinner" when it comes to enemies like militant homosexuals. I don't think most of here do, either. I just don't waste my breath pretending to love them.
A few years ago at the local state university, a mid-life business school professor (with a wife and two kids) announced that he was “transitioning” to female. The female staff immediately announced that they would not share the women's bathroom with him. The solution was to convert an existing bathroom to a locked, unisex bathroom. Fortunately, the tranny acquiesced to this arrangement and apparently uses that facility.
