Houston Mayor Annise Parker wasnât exactly gracious in defeat, accusing those who opposed the cityâs transgender-rights ordinance of âdeliberate liesâ and predicting the cityâs economy would suffer as a result of the measureâs repeal.
In remarks shortly after Tuesdayâs balloting, Ms. Parker blamed the Houston Equal Rights Ordinanceâs lopsided loss on âa very small but determined group of right-wing ideologues and the religionist rightâ for waging âa campaign of fear-mongering and deliberate lies.â
The ordinance, named Proposition 1 on the city ballot, lost by 62 to 38 percent despite the strong support of national gay-rights organizations, who poured millions into the local campaign, as well as pro-business groups.
âAnd truly, unfortunately, I fear that this will have stained Houstonâs reputation as a tolerant, welcoming global city, and I absolutely fear that there will be a direct economic backlash as a result of this ordinance going into defeat,â Ms. Parker said in a video posted on KHOU-TV. âAnd thatâs sad for Houston and sad for all of us.â
The ordinance, passed by city council in 2014, gave protected class status based on 15 characteristics, including race, ethnicity, gender, age and religion, as well as sexual orientation and gender identity. Most of those are already listed under federal and state law.

Does Texas allow the recall of elected officials?
What a maroon.
“lost by 62 to 38 percent”
Yeah, sure, a very small but angry group defeated this.
She is telegraphing after seeing business pressure Indiana last Spring. If we are going to go by the measure of economic impact then stopping prostitution, underage purchase of liquor, limiting abortions and and all other sorts of things are slowing the economy down. Some things are common sense and this mayor apparently has none.
“Why is it so hard for a pissed off citizen to walk up to a microphone and say âI want equal time for a citizen rebuttalâ?
Because the Grand Poo-Bah’s security detail will take down anyone impudent enough to try.
But the history behind the repeal of the Mayor's unilateral "Civil Rights" ordinance shows how determined she was to allow unstable men into girls restrooms.
...and why she's so mad today.
1. Mayor refused to put ordinance on the ballot
2. Mayor refused to acknowledge petition to put ordinance on ballot.
3. Mayor attempted to get Sermons of pastors and preachers who opposed the ordinance.
4. Mayor backed down after national protest.
5. TX Supreme Court ordered it's repeal or put on Nov ballot after lower court ruling challenged by the Mayor.
6. Ballot language contested due to confusing double-negative language.
7. Ballot language drawn up as Civil Rights bill.
8. Houstonians were not fooled.
Wow. I love that ROFL MAO image.
Great!
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Heb 13:17
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. ...

Sorry , let sheep be sheep and sheep dogs be the sheep dogs
Her “prediction” should really be read as a “boycott my city over this” request to Liberal activist groups.
God did not ‘appoint ‘ this person , Annise Parker .
We did ...
They can’t find some power-mad judge — who will overturn the will of the voters?
I used to be a reporter. Trust me. They won’t. The absolute last thing security is going to do is have themselves on camera roughing up the voter. It’s bad press. Press is the politicians life blood. We are not yet in Soviet Russia.
The shock of having such an action will freeze the mayor and Security will look to that fronen mayor for the nod...which will not come. They will default to closing in but taking no action unless violence is suspected.
Thanks for your great post.
It shows how truly lawless (criminal, in my view) she and her cronies were.
She and some of her lapdogs should have been prosecuted for circumventing the law.
“I fear that this will have stained Houston’s reputation.”
No, Mayor Parker that is what you are! A stain on Houston’s reputation.
GOOD!
Steal it and use often!
anus porker. Just another freak from houston. these are all freaks and perverts. Once upon a time in a sane land far away we just ignored them and never gave them any voice or credibility.
Where do they get their energy, passion and money for their perverted pursuits? Why? Why don’t they just mind their own business, go away, live out their perverted lives and leave the rest of us to go on about our business?
You nailed it, she’s a huge stain on Houston’s reputation.
