LOUISVILLE, Ky. â Matt Bevin, a Republican political novice, wealthy Louisville businessman and Tea Party favorite, was elected Kentuckyâs next governor on Tuesday, a victory that could herald a new era in a state where Democrats have held the governorâs mansion for all but four of the last 44 years. The Associated Press declared Mr. Bevin the winner shortly after 8 p.m.
In beating his Democratic opponent, Attorney General Jack Conway, Mr. Bevin surprised many in his own party, who believed that the climate in Kentucky was ripe for a Republican but feared that Mr. Bevin, a charismatic conservative with a go-it-alone style, was too far out of the mainstream and too inexperienced to win.
Mr. Bevin, 48, has spent recent weeks traveling Kentucky in a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban with more than 200,000 miles on it; on Tuesday, Election Day, he turned up at two Chick-fil-A restaurants here in Louisville, shaking hands in a last-minute bid for votes.

Clark Co. Indiana wasnt in the mood for 109,000,000 higher property tax to finance publik screwls either.
Pre-Trmp coat tails!
Yes, what I said was a little tongue-in-cheek, but if traditional marriage sets no precedent for a county clerk in KY as well as State Law itself that backs her up, who cares what "precedent" rulings were handed down for Idaho (which maybe applies) or New Jersey (which doesn't apply in KY at all)?
Think outside the box. Make Mitch accountable to the State in a way the 17th Amendment hasn't forced him to do ever. Have the KY legislature and governor pass a law that forces Mitcheeee-boy to provide a weekly progress report in person on how his actions that week have upheld the Congressional Power of the Purse in opposing Obama. Failure to comply will result in $15000/day fine against his personal assets -- like a Federal Consent Decree might do.
Play hardball. It will get so uncomfortable after a while he just might resign.
FReegards!
Thanks for the info. And Bevin wins by close to 9.
That would be a 14 point swing for any poll huggers out there.
Bevin won by 9% ? that’s a pretty good sign of things to come
Because he ran solid conservative principles
My wife donated to Bevin while in Lexington for a reunion.
She was happy for her long suffering relatives living in Lexington !
These poll are just pure propaganda and it's gotten way worse over the years ,
The Dem media is completely unhinged .
Actually, KY is a Right-To-Work County State. Each county can decide if it wishes to be RTW. Heavy Dem Counties bordering Tennessee and the strong conservative counties in the Tri-State area around Indiana are RTW. Prob more that I’m not aware of.
The polls had him down by 5%, but he won by a landslide.
So much for polls, again...
Looks like America is waking up!
It was pretty much a republican sweep. And don’t kid yourself. remember Kim Davis? She was a Democrat that, after her ordeal, changed to Republican. I thing a LOT of democrats did.
I moved to Kentucky from Seattle four years ago. I noticed that a LOT of conservatives here are democrats. I think the events of the last few years opened the eyes of many.
If Cruz stops pushing the cheap labor express, he could win!

I will occasionally FReep them, if seriously bored, but generally I just vote, every time the opportunity presents, and I always remind everyone I know, on every election (and primary) just how important it is to actually VOTE!
Even when the options are less than ideal.
Unofficial election results for an “at large” City Commissioner election-the only thing on the ballot at my precinct:
Registered Voters: 84,660
Ballots Cast: 10,619
Voter Turnout: 12.54%
And yes, I did pick the “least bad option” of the three less than ideal candidates on the ballot.
All were left wing/Democrat. (Supposed to be non-partisan-snicker)
One was a nutjob who runs for everything, and has never won any election, even against us evil corrupt Republicans!
The other was a 22 year old college student running on a “Hispanic solidarity movement”. His mommy has some position in the “Hispanic Chamber of Commerce”.
And the winner (the one I voted for) has an impressive personal resume and a well known history as a local citizen.
4,309 other people voted the same way I did.
Out of 84,660 available voters-the man won by 59.88% of all votes cast.
Voter turnout = 12.54%.
I am really not a fan of Trump, but I will say this: If he wins the nomination, I believe he will win the presidency. His support is strong outside the R party. It’s fascinating that the press doesn’t really seem to want to talk about it.
didnât the rats continually point to kentuckyâs obamacare as a great success?
Not really. One of KY’s largest providers just went belly up.
McConnell and Hal Rogers dumped a lot of Obamacare gubmit money in here, though.
Launch an investigation and see why Mitch always backs the dems. Bet he finds some things that causes Mitch to resign to spend more time with family about 5 seconds after it’s announced.
An enterprising person in KY would get on TV and ask their new governor to do a fraud/RICO look at it.
Yep - "conventional wisdom" is a bunch of horse manure and comes from the same place...
Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader.....
GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!
