Jeb Bush assures Florida crowd he’s in presidential race for long haul, ‘I know who I am’

PUNTA GORDA - Former Gov. Jeb Bush, whose national presidential campaign has dropped dramatically...

"I'm on the side of the people that want to rise up and I will wake up each day with joy in my heart," said Bush. "I will not be an angry candidate. I will work as hard as I can to put a fork in the whole darn thing on March 15."

Bush said he wasn't concerned with the criticism his campaign has received, saying there are 100 days until February and four months until the March 15 Florida primary.

"We have a long way to go," he said. "People don't know the whole Jeb story, but they will. We got a lot of resources and I'm going to campaign hard in early states and let them know that it's a record of accomplishments that is unmatched by anyone on that stage."...

"I'm going to campaign hard and I'm going to campaign to win," he said. "I feel really good about where we are."

The campaign has tried to adjust, cutting salaries and refocusing resources in early primary states...

"It's an indicator that the tide might be falling...a sinking ship," said Chris Ingram, a Republican Tampa-based political strategist.

Ingram said Bush has long-term sustainability, but needs to do something to "turn on the excitement."...in Florida kicking off his "Jeb Can Fix It" tour...

Bush acknowledged he's been getting a lot of advice... taking it with a grain of salt...

"The simple fact is you have to be who you are, and I know who I am. My compass points north. I'm comfortable in my own skin ...They're looking for a servant leader. They're not looking for a big personality on the stage."

On Friday night, about 100 people attended the rally

I’m glad he knows who he is, but he’s also very low in the polls and should realize everyone is already familiar with him and he has no chance to turn it out around - even if he were to get billions in campaign donations, he has nowhere to go. It made no sense for him to get into this race to begin with and it makes no sense for him to continue being in the race. Drop out - you’re just background noise at this point, Jeb.

Sea and sky
Come together in a hazy kiss
Upon the ocean
Europe seems a foreign notion
Hardly thought of....

That is such an amazing album. Among his best, surely.

Newt Gingrich made a similar comment in the 2012 election cycle. He didn’t last a month after insisting he would stay in the campaign until the bitter end:

As I recall, Adelson cut off his money spigot to Gingrich. Newt packed it in soon after that.

I’d love to see Jeb quit before the voting starts but I doubt it will happen.

Newt should have tattooed “All the way until Adelson cuts off the money spigot” on his forehead.

100 people is not a crowd.

It’s not even a time share seminar.

“All the way until Romney clinches it, meanwhile I’ll stay in WAY past the point of my viability and split the vote with Rick Santorum, and my fan club will IDIOTICALLY blame him even though after I attacked Romney from the left on Bain capital and got my ass kicked in Florida I usually came in third or fourth behind Ron Paul.”

Probably won’t fit on his forehead. Would make a nice tramp stamp.

Between the Wars was the album that addicted me to Al. I must have played it a couple time a week for several years. Literally. During that time, I went back over his catalog, and I was shocked at how fresh and compelling it all sounded. In 2000, 2005 and 2008, Al released excellent new material. The hardest thing for me is learning from his entourage that he has written much fabulous new music that I will probably never hear!
But, on Saturday, I am actually going to see an Al show at the Colonial in Phoenixville, Pa, with my brother Ron and his wife and a few of their friends. Very excited!

I’m glad you’re getting the chance! I’m not sure when I discovered Al beyond the radio stuff, but the first album I had was the great Time Passages. I remember finding Between the Wars at Circuit City when it was out of print and hard to find.

I love Time Passages, though. Timeless Skies and End of the Day just sound magical with that incredible guitar work, and I can’t even count the number of times I’ve played Almost Lucy. The album almost won me a million dollars, too. Because if I had been on the episode of Millionaire where the final question concerned the location of Charlotte Corday’s victim in the painting “The Death of Marat,” I could have answered “in the bathtub!” thanks to Palace of Versailles!

Gotta admit, the last one I bought was A Beach Full of Shells, and I don’t really know the album. I should probably rectify that.

I don’t know where you live, Rastus, but keep an eye on Al’s website. You never know where he might turn up. It is a thrill to see the man perform some of his masterpieces.
