This could be a YUGE shift amid the 2016 political continuum. According to media reports the Donald Trump and Ben Carson camps are currently organizing a meeting to discuss future debates.
The RNC is not currently invited.
There are two aspects inherent within this dynamic that cannot be over emphasized:
* First - Similar to the DNC tactics, by RNC Rule the candidates are barred from participating in, or organizing, debates that are outside of the Republican National Committee.
* Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the RNC is Team Bush.
The RNC, as a current political construct, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the political dynasty known as the Bush Family. Currently, Jeb Bush is the candidate of the Bush family, and by extension the candidate of the RNC. Understanding this political dynamic is key to understanding the RNC/GOPe road map to nominate their candidate regardless of political opposition therein.
If Trump and Carson gather up enough support to strike against the RNC/GOPe apparatus there will be an internal war similar to the war within the republican party in 1978/1979. You might remember candidate Ronald Reagan organizing and paying for debates too.
When you combine this reality with the strategic deal-making acumen of Donald Trump, the scope of the needed popcorn buckets increases exponentially.
It is interesting, and brutally obvious to note, the Bush Team are absent from the initial media announcement:
[...] On Thursday, many of the campaigns told POLITICO that the RNC, which has taken a greater role in the 2016 debate process than in previous election cycles, had failed to take their concerns into account. It was time, top aides to at least half a dozen of the candidates agreed, to begin discussing among themselves how the next debates should be structured and not leave it up to the RNC and television networks.
The gathering is being organized by advisers to the campaigns of Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Bobby Jindal and Lindsey Graham, according to multiple sources involved in the planning. Others who are expected to attend, organizers say, are representatives for Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum. The planners are also reaching out to other Republican candidates.
Spokespersons for the RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"I think the campaigns have a number of concerns and they have a right to talk about that amongst themselves," said Christian Ferry, Graham's campaign manager. The objective, Ferry said, was to "find out what works best for us as a group."
The RNC/GOPe are in a tight spot, and because Jeb Bush has his back against the wall, due to recent campaign/debate collapses, their ability to influence other candidates away from the meeting and subsequent conversation only adds additional leverage toward Team Trump and Team Carson.
This will be interesting...
A Possibility - Given the nature of their business interests and specific experience with broadcast production and media etc., it would be entirely possible for Team Trump to coordinate an independent debate format controlled and coordinated by people within his network group and contracted to meet the needs of each campaign.
Team Trump knows how to put on the event, how to coordinate the entire venture, and how to contract -for profit- the broadcast rights to any media outlet of their collective choosing. The campaigns would not only be in control of the venue, moderators and debate format, they could effectively profit from the associated revenue.
It would be beyond wonderful to see the RNC apparatus removed from the business end of selling their candidates to piranha left-wing media.
Obviously this would expose the RNC/GOPe machine to a loss of control and power. As a consequence, Team Bush would not look favorably upon such a possibility.
You are both very kind and your efforts benefit everyone on FR. Thank You!
Trump looks out on the horizon, looks at what he does for a living, and sees what is going on right now globally as a threat to his business. The threat is from his own government. The USG is the origin of the threat world-wide.
Guy probably looked at all the options and decided even if he didn’t win, what he knows about communications may be enough to at least change the debate and slow the decline.
Turns out he likely underestimated how pissed off everybody was. Luck meets preparation and guts.
That is likely what happened. Now it is probably his to lose.
Levin, Hannity, Limbaugh
Lets put out wish list. It Team Trump, Cruz, Carson etc are not lurking here they are smoking crack.
My guess is they are, so lets give them a list, feel free to add to it.
Dr Thomas Sowell, Dr. Walter Williams, David Horowitz, Dennis Prager ( great guy for cultural questions ), P.J. O'Rourke, Mark Stein, Jeff Kuhner, Howie Carr, a must is Mark Levin, Larry Kuldow ( maybe ) and Ben Stein. Yes Laura Ingraham, so please add more!
Open the debate with a statement from Trump to the RNC, “You’re Fired!”
Mark Levin could handle the entire thing himself.
Even if they were willing, for mercy sakes, DON’T include the Blaze
Glenn et al have been hideous to Trump!!!!!
I miss him too...He was an original!!!!
I wonder why Cruz isn't mentioned in this initial set of candidates?
The "Republicans" on the Presidential Debate Commission are a bunch of spineless eunuchs, and like the RNC, they also need to go. Our position, in the interest of restoring something at least remotely resembling an honest debate should simply be these two conditions:
He is not to be seen, not to be heard, and not to inject himself into the debate in any way, shape, manner, or form.
Two simple rules. That's all that's required.
It's long past time to continue to allow the national agenda to be set along the lines of what "progressives" want to talk about, while our issues are not even raised, let alone explored. It's long past time that lib/prog candidates get softballs and "why are you better than him" questions while we're subjected to an endless barrage of "have-you-stopped-beating-your-wife?"
And, it's long past time that people who do nothing but read news from a teleprompter are FORCIBLY stopped from injecting themselves into the process. They have no place in the the debates and don't belong there. Their presence as "moderators" lends them an aura of "neutrality" that extends far beyond the debate forum among the LIV's, giving them the impression that these progtards are "referees" while they're spewing their constant bias at 6 PM every night.
They aren't. It's time to stop pretending they are.
Bravo
I don't disagree, but I was thinking in terms of the number of viewers ( 250,00+ ? ) that will watch it. Some of Beck's BFF's will be on the dias, so letting him simulcast cast it I am ok with. Hosting it and or running it from his TX facility? I am not sure, holding this in an arena/auditorium that can hold a good number of people works for me. Broadmoor Hockey Rink works for me (stunning facility IMHO). Look up who owns the "Broadmoor Hotel" same family. YUGE Conservatives....
Excellent!
I don’t think he will pick someone for political reasons. I think he will pick someone that will help with the job.
I think he is scared of losing his party and his job. LOL
