At the CNBC Republican primary debate, Donald Trump walked away from two critical elements of his immigration policy. He downsized his proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall, and he disavowed his prior commitment to curb corporate use of foreign university graduates.
Instead of a coast-to-coast, 3,000-mile wall across the United States, Trump said he wanted to build a 1,000-mile wall, without extending it to parts of the border that are rugged.
"Weâre going to build the wall, weâre going to create a border⦠They built The Great Wall of China. Thatâs 13,000 miles. Here, we actually need a thousand, because we have natural barriers. So we need a thousand. We can do a wall. Weâre going to have a big, fat beautiful door right in the middle of the wall. We are going to have people come in, but they are coming in legally."
He did not mention his prior promise to return U.S.-educated, U.S.-trained, illegal immigrants to their home countries.
When he was asked about the growing number of foreign university graduates now being imported to take well-paying white-collar jobs from Americans, Trump denied his prior statement that described Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)79% as âMark Zuckerbergâs personal Senator.â
âI never said that. I never said that,â Trump responded vehemently.
Trump even welcomed the arrival of more foreign graduates â âIt is fine if they come in, they have to come in legallyâ â and he referred to Zuckerberg as âMark.â

He didn't go after Carson, he let Carson go after Carson, he let Jeb go after Jeb...he was on the ball, listening and packing away some information...
He did great last night...GO TRUMP!!!
Maybe he could say that those who want to file a claim for “invaluable contribution” status can be considered for a legal option to stay. But it shouldn’t be an easy thing to prove. That way he calls their bluff — the “they” that claim how necessary these people are.
I personally think we need to sue Mexico for the costs since they aid and abet illegal immigration.
This article is a lie and was shot down on Breitbart comments section hard. First of all, Trump has always said there are natural barriers that make a wall easier to build. secondly, his immigration plan calls for raising salaries and American workers first. it doesn’t end H1bs, never did. He has always said he wants people from top Universities to stay. Did he make a gaffe last night and could have explained it better ..yes.
This is a hit piece nothing else.
I’ve said this all along
That is why the cost that LSM put out was so off. There doesn’t need to be a wall where it is so remote that illegals can’t cross easily. adding 200 or 300 miles would make a big difference.
There is always going to be legal immigration. And he doesn’t need to build a wall across a river or mountain.
TRUMP spelled our that position earlier in the campaign. That was what I thought he was going to do.
This post is totally wrong. Trump has, more than once, reiterated that the Wall won’t need to be throughout the whole 3,000 miles. He has always said there would be parts of a border ‘wall’ already in existence that is working and would not require much. And . . he has always said that he wanted to ensure that the really smart ones coming out of our universities that WE trained and educated could be utilized here. There was nothing yugely different in what he said during the debate . . not even remotely.
Perhaps it's becoming a game of Apprentice for the VP slot. Trump keeps bringing up "energy" as being important. Cruz, Rubio, and Christie had energy.
Instead of a coast-to-coast, 3,000-mile wall across the United States, Trump said he wanted to build a 1,000-mile wall,

Its not 3,000 miles across our southern border...its 1,000...
These screams of walk back and contradiction etc. could be somewhat countered if Trump kept policy position on the web, but Trump is Trump and must manage in what way he chooses. He’ll sink or swim on that.
>”Instead of a coast-to-coast, 3,000-mile wall across the United States, Trump said he wanted to build a 1,000-mile wall, without extending it to parts of the border that are rugged.”
Munro is wrong. Donald Trump has always stated that only 1000 miles is needed because of natural barriers.
Close. Its 2000 miles.
“Its not 3,000 miles across our southern border...its 1,000..”
Our southern border with Mexico is 1,989 miles.

If we had the will, a chicken wire fence is all that is needed.
The American people have lost their minds, their will, and their future by chasing after godlessness.
Up is down, black is white, etc.
This is all true. I’ve been to the border so I know. Most of the “border” is mountains, all but impassable.
Breitbart wants him to build a wall around the Gulf of Mexico too?
This is a hit piece short on truth and long on propaganda
ping to thread.
At this point Trump could say we are going to build a picket fence with lots of gates and welcome mats and Trump supporters would say “No problem, he knows what he’s doing”.
