Think youre making the healthy choice by picking a vegetarian hot dog? Check the brand youre buying: A new report found that 10 percent of the vegetarian hot dogs tested contained meat, including chicken in a vegetarian breakfast sausage and pork in a vegetarian hot dog.
But thats not all. Clear Food, a company that genetically tests food products, looked at 345 hot dog samples from 75 brands, including meat-based and meat-free franks. Of those 345 hot dogs, 14.4 percent had some sort of issue, be it a labeling inaccuracy or hygiene problem.
Some dogs were labeled pork-free important for certain religions but were found to contain pork after all. Others listed only one type of meat but included several or didnt contain all the ingredients listed.
Even grosser: 2 percent of all samples were found to have traces of human DNA in them. Veggie dogs were the worst off, accounting for 67 percent of the hygiene issues and two-thirds of the human DNA found.
The good news: As bad as some brands were found to be, there are some trustworthy options out there. The report lists the soy chorizo and meatless corn dogs at Trader Joes as safe picks for vegetarians, and Taverittes, Whole Foods 365 brand, Aidells, Hebrew National, Ball Park, Oscar Mayer, and Johnsonville for meat eaters.

Made with real, corn-fed Vegans.
So the packing house certainly has some aerosolized skin that gets into the meat. It does not mean there is a steady stream of fingers lopped off and included in your Jimmy Dean sausages.
Now we know what happened to Jimmy Hoffa.
I would bet virtually ALL food contains “traces” of human DNA. Our skin and hair fall out constantly. Our DNA is everywhere. This shouldn’t be a shock.
Why would it have human DNA??
No Jimmy Dean in my Jimmy Dean sausages, please......................
Jimmy Dean......Jimmy Dean..........Rock on!
Loved that song!..........................

Then why would the veggies dogs be worse than the meat kind?..................
TRACES...skin flakes everywhere. Cleaning of the veggies, the machines, the handling, etc. human dna is everywhere. This is just showing up because they can measure it. The stuff has been there always.
Then there should be a way to match that DNA to a worker or workers and train them on the proper hygiene methods during work.....................
First time I saw that I thought it was satire...........................
We only eat Boar’s Head in natural casings.
Veggie sourced material has much low standards of cleanliness and personal protective equipment, and there’s no outside inspection of veggie dogs.
Those are some of the reasons that commodity corn and soy are really animal food, not people food.
I don’t eat veggie burgers or hot dogs, though I have tried them before. Taste like cardboard.....................
Now we know what Planned Parenthood is doing with its unsold baby parts.
