After a historic legal settlement that will allow a California inmate to undergo sex-reassignment surgery, the state’s prisons will implement the nation’s first guidelines that would authorize surgical procedures sought by transgender inmates who are suffering from severe mental problems.
The guidelines call for panels of state health professionals to review appeals for sex-reassignment surgery from inmates whose doctors say their patients are under significant distress because of a mental condition known as gender dysphoria. The inmate must have been taking hormones for at least a year and have consistently expressed a desire to change his or her biological gender before an operation can be approved.
Prison officials have estimated the cost of the state-funded operations as high as $100,000. But the Transgender Law Center in San Francisco, which has represented two inmates in suits against the state, says each operation would cost $15,000 to $30,000.

Look at the bright side: Those male inmates who have their gonads removed will be less likely to commit crime, once their testosterone goes away.

And we look back and judge that last century's practice of lobotomizing violent criminals was considered cruel and unusual. I can't imagine what history will say about this.

By definition, don’t these “trans whatever” people suffer from severe mental problems??? Think about it.
As of today, I believe that this “gender dysphoria” is still considered a mental condition by the psychiatric profession.
At one time, homosexuality was considered a mental condition, but due to political pressures, it was deleted from the official categories of mental conditions. Maybe the same will happen with gender dysphoria. If it does, it will be a political move to make some political statement; it will not be done to assist the treatment of people who have these “trans” conditions.
What is the actual goal here for the left? What does this do to us as a nation to bring us down? I have read Lenin’s quotes and Aliskys. Which goal is this one?

Like hell. The surgeries, the drugs, doctors, the psychiatrist, etc. Bet the real cost will be about 10X higher. The low dollar quoted is probably an attempt to make this seem like a trivial expense.
How about these confused folks get the surgery on their own dime?
Why don’t they just balls-for-boobs (or vice versa) swap meets in the prison yard once a month? Plenty of knives and pain killers available.
Does the ‘sex reassignment surgery’ fix their gender dysphoria? I didn’t think so. That must be why so many are suicidal. So how can this be a legitimate medical therapy?
The end result is providing more eunuchs and boy-toys for the burgeoning human trafficking+sex-slave industry, same as with illegal immigration (e.g. rentboys.com).
