Donald Trump says he doesnt flat out blame former president George W. Bush that the Sept. 11 terror attacks happened on his watch. But he can think of three reasons why one could hold Bush responsible.
And, he might add, they are three things a President Trump would do very differently.
You always have to look to the person at the top, Trump said Saturday in a telephone interview. Do I blame George Bush? I only say that he was the president at the time, and you know, you could say the buck stops here.
So why might one consider Bush responsible?
No. 1: Bushs immigration policy. We had very weak immigration laws, Trump said, adding that perhaps if Bush had had a Trump-style immigration policy, replete with the strong laws that Im wanting, these terrorists wouldnt have been in the country.

Article also mentions there were reports from 1995 that muslims were training to kamikaze into US govt buildings... I expect the GOP to be the grownups in the room, but Clinton & the disputed 2000 election had major part in the laxity before 2001
In reality, it is probably not fair to blame Bush for the pre-9/11 stuff, given
Capitalizing on BDS. That’s kind of yesterday, but then, so is geezer Trump.
All true, but to lay 911 at his feet is just unjust demagoguery. Trump is abusing his boolsheet push-pit supplied by a complicit media. It starves conservatives of oxygen.
Do I share responsibility for auto theft if I leave the keys in the car?
The main problem with blaming past deeds and persons is that the most recent leaders have opportunity to change what is bad. Instead, they seek to institute new policies no matter good or bad. It is the “do something” disease. YES, Kennedy screwed the country over with the immigration changes. Every President since Carter could and should have realized the dangers and reigned both legal and illegal immigration in.
Some of the documents uncovered by that Wikileaks stuff show WMDs in Iraq as well:
WikiLeaks docs prove Saddam had WMD, threats remain
by Seth Mandel
October 28, 2010
EXCERPTS:
... And although the anti-war left welcomed the release of the documents, they would probably cringe at one of the most significant finds of this latest crop of reports: Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
...documents reveal that for years afterward, U.S. troops continued to find chemical weapons labs, encounter insurgent specialists in toxins and uncover weapons of mass destruction.
...In August 2004, American soldiers seized a toxic blister agent, a chemical weapon used since the First World War, Wired reported. In Anbar province, they discovered a chemical lab and a chemical cache. Three years later, U.S. military found buried WMD, and even as recent as 2008 found chemical munitions.
...In 2008, a Pentagon study of Iraqi documents.... more than 600,000 captured original documents and thousands of hours of audio and video recordingsproved conclusively that Saddam had worked with terrorist organizations that were plotting attacks on American targets around the world.
... The New York Times reports that just prior to the United States lead invasion, Iraqs dictator Saddam Hussein informed his top generals that he had destroyed his stockpiles of chemical weapons three months before their war plans meeting.
According to the Times report, the generals all believed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and were counting on the WMD to repel the oncoming coalition invaders.
Trump is 100 percent correct! Bush was also responsible for Iraq war, the financial meltdown of 2008 and is the reason why Mcain/Palin tanked 1 month before the election. Hank Paulson also bailed out his buddies at Goldman Sacs and pocketed a huge chunk of that bailout money for himself!
Yes, of course, It's why Trump's point is so compelling. Bush didn't walk into office a babe in woods.
You are not listening. He even said he did not lay any blame on GW, he was just stating a fact to respond to JEB’s blanket statement that the GW administration kept us safe. It is a fine point he was making but again and again said he was not placing blame.
I was just commenting on Trump ‘s comment.
You dont need to feel sorry for George Bush just cause you feel hes on your team! Cause hes not! Is John Boener or Mitch McConnell on your team? The “R” means nohing if they are a horrible team member.
There are plenty of other “R’s” that are horrible too!
That’s what he’s doing. Every juy on the GOP stage supports Democrats. The R on their sleeve is attached with well-worn Velcro.
Had they been actual ‘Republicand’ Trump would never have stood a chance. Because they didn’t do anything but be Democrats in word and deed, he will likely be the next president.
Not that I am happy about it considering his healthcare crap and other things, but people want a ‘hero’.
Think of it this way, Bush was the relief pitcher who comes in with the bases loaded, and his team clinging to a one-run lead.
His job is to protect the lead. But he allows inherited runners to score and loses the lead. Is it entirely his fault? No, the inherited runners are charged to the pitcher he replaced, and therefore they get the lion’s share of the blame......but, still, his job was to protect the lead and it didn’t get done.
WaPo doesn't mind shifting the blame away from the Clintons and onto Bush.
How about paring the positions down to about 35?
I must quote.
If Trump is reaching out to the Left with these kind of comments because he thinks he has the nomination sewn up, I’m not liking it.
Most politicians find their hands tied by Political Correctness. Bush led a PC war against people who don't play by rules. I think what Trump is saying is that he won't be constrained by the namby pamby rules that Bush followed.
Bush not fixing the Gorelick Wall is a valid criticism by Trump.
Trump making no mention of the Clinton administration being the origin of the Gorelick Wall is a mistake that only empowers Hillary.
Trump is being a blowhard. There is no way he can claim what would have happened if he had been president. This anti-immigration thing is a recent crusade for him. Fifteen years ago, was Trump making a huge issue out of illegal immigration? Would his first act as president have been to seek a massive overhaul of immigration policy? Even if he had, could that policy have been implemented in time to stop 9/11? I don’t think so.
