An Orthodox Jewish woman is suing the Lucille Roberts health-club chain for allegedly pitching a holy fit when she insisted on wearing a skirt during her workouts in Brooklyn. Yosefa Jalal, of Crown Heights, claims in court papers to be filed Friday that she was repeatedly harassed, threatened with arrest and ultimately had her membership revoked for following religious dictates regarding female modesty.

If she had worn a burka, they would have left her alone.

It seems to me that wearing a skirt while doing exercises would threaten modesty more than wearing normal exercise clothes. Cheerleaders wear skirts, and you can see right up them when they're leaping around.

Yoga pants or stay home.

She’s been a member and working out at the women-only clubs since 2011.

Well, when Planet Fitness revoked that woman’s membership for complaining they allowed a man in the dressing room (transgender), I believe this health club is being unreasonable.

"There has to be a lot more to this story, but the other side cant talk, because they are being sued."
I think someone earlier was probably right when they said it was for safety reasons. Lots of pullys and machinery that could catch a loose skirt and injure someone. If the gym can show it was a legitimate safety concern then they will win this lawsuit.

"Well, they could have told her that, rather than threaten arrest."
How do you know they didn't?
To: Steve_Seattle
They don’t wear mini skirts, and they don’t do movements to expose their legs.

I spent my teenage years trying to make my father, Baptist preacher, understand that. We were forbidden to wear slacks, shorts, etc., even in gym class.

Probably not safe - get skirt caught in machine and then sue.

Depends on the skirt, right? They could have her sign a waiver. I see people doing all kinds of risky behavior in gyms, and the staff doesn’t care? is wearing a skirt really that bad?

That doesn't look comfortable at all. I'd cringe if I had to watch someone try to exercise in those pants.
But the girl is remarkably pretty. Any idea who she is?

This is what happens when we allow antipathy for moslems to dictate a hostility to religious strictures.

This is sensible.
My grands could not enter our local pool in long-sleeved shirts and ankle-length skirts. We did not sue.
It was quite reasonable to ask that patrons wear actual swimwear.
My grands could have drowned in that ridicuous Baptist garb!

If she had been wearing a burka they would have been afraid to say a word to her.
