Trump blames Bush for 9/11... and he's right in some ways

Bush has been warned that Bin Laden was planning to attack the US

On Aug. 6, 2001, President George W. Bush received a classified review of the threats posed by Osama bin Laden and his terrorist network, Al Qaeda. That morning’s “presidential daily brief” — the top-secret document prepared by America’s intelligence agencies — featured the now-infamous heading: “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” A few weeks later, on 9/11, Al Qaeda accomplished that goal.

In the aftermath of 9/11, Bush officials attempted to deflect criticismthat they had ignored C.I.A. warnings by saying they had not been told when and where the attack would occur. That is true, as far as it goes, but it misses the point. Throughout that summer, there were events that might have exposed the plans, had the government been on high alert. Indeed, even as the Aug. 6 brief was being prepared, Mohamed al-Kahtani, a Saudi believed to have been assigned a role in the 9/11 attacks, was stopped at an airport in Orlando, Fla., by a suspicious customs agent and sent back overseas on Aug. 4. Two weeks later, another co-conspirator, Zacarias Moussaoui, was arrested on immigration charges in Minnesota after arousing suspicions at a flight school. But the dots were not connected, and Washington did not react.

If Bush had really been so concerned about our security, he would have ordered the State Department and related agencies to check up on the activities of recent Muslim visitors from suspect Middle Eastern nations.

According to the article quoted above, the warnings actually had started coming as early as May 1st, so Bush had time to react.

We can’t win if we can’t defend what our side has done right and has a superior stance.

And we cannot win if we cannot clearly identify the enemy.

Islam is NOT a religion of peace.

GW pursued the mad strategy of taking out Iraq without securing the weapons depots, and then displacing the military. In short he weakened the Sunni Muslims, strengthened the Shia, took out Saddam, and turned the existing military into an insurgency fully armed. It was a cluster F, and gets worse by the day.

Now we have a full blown Caliphate which is threatening Europe and Russia. They don’t need troop transports, we bring them in ON OURS.

I know Obama deserves a lot of blame for that last bit, but I don’t hear that “good ole boy” Georgie opening up his mouth.

Are our ex-Presidents too classy to step up and point out the truth? Or are they playing politics even now. Death and destruction are staring the West squarely in the face if we don’t play the next 20 years exactly correctly. So I guess they are just going by the “tradition” of keeping their mouths shut.

The Bible has a special condemnation for a man that sees the enemy coming and does not “blow his horn”. GW, his Father, Obama and Bush Sr will get it it spades.

Now I voted proudly for GW twice. I have since learned to regret the proud part of that. Then again, the false choices we have been given.

Think of who would have been President if Bush had not been elected, Al Gore and or John Kerry. If you follow the logic of this though, we ended up with a Gore, Kerry, Hillary power cluster in Obama. The idiocy and policies of all three rolled into one oatmeal raisin commie cookie.

Because we knew where Bin Laden was and could get to him. We could have made a powerful example to Al Queda.

My wife likes the old movies. One day I needed a break and sat to watch one with her;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Letter_%281940_film%29

This film was released in 1940, and even in it, the implications were there in the story line of how FDR was in danger of igniting a war over a trade war with Japan over rubber was very obvious. Did he know of the coming attack? He absolutely knew something was up because they knew of the fleet leaving Japan and had lost track of it. But never raised any sort of readiness alerts to increase scrutiny or even awareness to a possible threat.

What did he do to address visa overstays and our open borders? How many lives did the Beltway snipers claim even after 911?

Given Trump’s frequent references to the military he well knows that the commander is always ultimately responsible for everything that occurs on his watch—that comes with the job. Sounds like Trump knows this and will run a tight ship and won’t be looking for scapegoats when problems arise on his watch.

“Because we knew where Bin Laden was and could get to him. We could have made a powerful example to Al Queda.”

Exactly right. GWB could have done that.

9/11 is the one thing Bush got right.

I must have missed the part where we nuked the saudis on 9/12. I do remember the aftermath where a jobs program was created for otherwise unemployable people to stand around and molest women and children, while completely ignoring muslimes. I remember bush and the media coddling the enemy and scolding anyone who dare mention its/their name.

I'm constantly amazed and disappointed at the mindset I see...that blame or responsibility need be assigned to one actor, and all others involved were passive, blameless meat puppets.

Al Qaeda flew the planes into the buildings. W didn't. The House of Said was/is funding terrorist groups.

BJ was more worried about under desk activity than responding to the first WTC bombing, which was treated as...a law enforcement issue.

W's administration wasn't up and running. This is primarily because Harry Reid was playing politics with nominees.

W sat in the oval office. It happened on his watch. He chose as his priority his "new tone," being "a uniter, not a divider."

Leadership...would Trump be sitting quietly in the Oval Office, preserving the "new tone," or would he have been lighting a fire under Reid's @ss? Would priorities and plans happened PDQ? Would Trump be spouting ROP nonsense? A hint...the Twin Towers were a New York landmark.

No one should be held responsible for that which they do not control, but should be for that which they can...whether or not they choose to do so.

The real story could go back to Bill Clinton who didn’t take him out when he had the chance.

Worse Clinton stirred up the hornets nest without killing any of the hornets. 9/11 was a revenge attack for Clinton's hasty cruise missile attack on Bin Laden's training camp, which coincided with Monica Lewinsky's grand jury confession. It wasn't the flapping of a butterfly's wings that initiated the sequence, it was a chubby intern sucking off a scumbag politician.

Pitiful defense.

RIGHT. Trump will send previous W supporters over to Jeb as a way to show their support for W and their anger at Trump for shooting off his mouth. The last thing we need is more Jeb votes. It hurts Trump and Cruz. Jeb will be breathing on Cruz’s neck.

Things like this keep me from joining the herd. I just don’t think he needs to go there. The point is arguable, but I think he loses more voters than he gains. He is already attracting plenty of Democrats.

Exactly. The Clinton 90s were a “holiday from history”.
Plenty of blame to go around, including the Media.

Free media. The issue will be forgotten, thousands of new supporters will sign up.

And the meme will be out there: TRUMP IS NOT BUSH

In the 2012 election the meme out there was: ROMNEY JUST ANOTHER BUSH

And certainly in 2008 election the meme out there was: MCCAIN JUST ANOTHER BUSH

Jeb is trying to ride his father and brother’s coat tails, only problem is, he isn’t the MAN his father and brother are and never will be...

He attacked Trump at the debate about ‘my brother kept you safe’ Trump hasn’t said anything, but he did yesterday and bit back like the viper he can be...

We now see that Jeb is a cry baby titty mouse that can’t take the heat, and he’s losing badly in everything he is doing...spending 4.million on ONE ad in NH and didn’t even get a ping...so he’s done, and Trump just gave him his head on his plate...and another bit the dust....

What in the article is incorrect?

In the implication that Bush could have done something material in the 35 days between the August 6 briefing and September 11.

We have to remember that the Democrats were still stalling on confirming his Cabinet nominations as payback for "selected not elected." He was late getting started because Clinton wouldn't release transition funding during Gore's election challenge.

So Bush didn't have his infrastructure in place to rapidly deploy any kind of counter-intelligence operation of a vague nature.

Is protecting the country from islamists an "issue" in this election? If so, it needs to be.

And it was Jeb who raised it, not Trump. Trump merely responded.
