A rare photo of legendary outlaw Billy the Kid, purchased for less than a subway ride, could now fetch $5 million.
The outlaw, whose real name was William H. Bonney, was playing croquet with his gang of Lincoln County Regulators in late summer 1878 when this 4-by-5-inch tintype image was captured, according to Americana company Kagins, which is negotiating the sale of the photo.

I guess his failure at croquet led him to his life of crime.
Maybe they should’ve done like today and given trophies for last place.

Maybe they should put it in the jail cell with the tombstones.

I don’t know about dancing around a maypole, but I heard “Wild Bill” actually got his nickname from his legendary antic, and prowess, on the badminton court...

All is not lost. Billy still has SOME cred. They used sledgehammers and cannonballs to play the game back then on the frontier.
Wooden balls and mallets didn’t come along until the wimpy east coast libs started playing it, and gave it the sissy name. When Billy played it they called it “Whackthe#&%!thing”. Times have really changed. Would I lie?

He looks like less of a `tard holding a croquet mallet than a rifle, odd as that may seem.

He looks like an idiot in this photo too.

He may even bid lower: “The thing is, I just don’t have a lot of people come in asking for Billy the Kid pictures...”

A rare photo of legendary outlaw Billy the Kid I have a question.
Where is the reference photo that identified Billy the Kid in this photo? In other words, how would you authenticate this photo?

I prefer Loana, who lived One Million Years BC. She looks a bit like Raquel Welch, and she is the reason men invented the wheel. And fire. And selfies.

That female of the prehistoric species does resemble Raquel Welch somewhat. Funny that you mentioned it, though. Because there's a girl in my neighborhood who's a member of a roller derby team who I think looks a little like here too.
She was nice enough to let me take a couple of photos of her. She even changed her outfit for the 2nd shot. I asked her if I could watch her change, but she said no.
