America's power is being tested to a greater extent, than in the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961.
Russia is attacking the Al-Qaeda linked terrorist organization, the Free Syrian Army, which is a so-called ally of America. China indicated that it will join the military strikes against the anti-Assad forces, because China considers Assad as an ally: http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/100915-774990-china-joining-russia-to-humiliate-us-weakened-by-obama.htm
China is now ready to fight to defend its unilateral control of the Spratley Islands in the South China Sea.
Does America have enough military power to defeat a combined force of Russia and China?
“A heavy dose of national repentance is the starting point.”
We seldom agree, but we do on this.
Either the president or people down the chain of command would hesitate or decide not to respond. And either way the result would be the same. Our total annihilation with no response.
If we asked this question....yes
Impose a large tariff on Chinese goods being imported... cut them off at the knees
Repeal the laws to be able to send our energy overseas...to cut Putin's gonads off
Of course, that would highly affect the price of USA goods....our gibsmedat / FSA people would not stand for it...
It won't be just Russia and China.
We have the tools, manpower and expertise, but currently we aren’t ruthless enough to win.
quote “Why would China want to defeat us militarily - we’re their best customer?! “
that is the best answer ever!
you just made me feel a lot better about the whole situation.
China’s been dumping treasuries lately too.
Only if they only take out Washington, DC.
The point is, we didn’t have the money to invade Iraq. We had to borrow it, helping to sink us trillions further into debt - and into decline as a world power.
Worth it?
It can. The questions are for how long, given the present and ongoing degradation of our military, and will it choose to?
America suffers for “Body-bag-aphobia” We do not want to lose any people—or kill any innocents. You can not win a war like that. In Iraq how many did we lose? About 5,000? In the Civil War we would lose that in a single day long battle. Yes, you can inflict damage by using rockets and bombs but you can not win. If war happens it will turn into WW III —world wars are not good! Lots of folks die. This time America may well have to stand alone. The Me generation would rather bow to China and wear a Mao Jacket than fight. If war comes—I do not think we have the will to win.
No...

It would be stupid for China to start a war with the US if we ever so slightly push back against their new islands. Doing so may very well result in all financial obligations being dissolved costing China Millions. War is an economic consideration; China does not want to destroy all of America, nor do they want to be destroyed so nukes are out for the homelands. To lose the investment they have in America would destroy them just as the Soviet Union was destroyed in economic collapse.
At nuclear attack of size would wipe out a large part of humanity. Image dozens if not hundreds of Fukushima/Chernobyls occurring all at the same time. Until failsafe nuclear reactors are engineered and deployed the world can not afford a large scale nuclear exchange. Now a small exchange in an undeveloped area like the deserts of the middle east or the open waters of the Pacific is much more probable.
Default on the chinee loans, in the first place. In the second, begin a systematic buildup of our entire military forces, reservists and active, as well as training/recruitment needs. And, let them know we are doing it.
As for the structural response— yes, the US can beat both with strategic weapons.
Thank you W for setting the world on fire. Thank you O for fanning the flames. May you both rot in hell.
So, default on the loans from non-allies and go to war with the biggest one— China. That would put them away, twice.
On the other hand, CHINA could impose a blockade on US without anything but a pen. And a phone call to THEIR own ports.
We could never stop enough trade into China to hurt their (communist-supporting/communist-supported) economy. Sure, they would be “harmed” - a little bit - if they lost their best custoemr. But the Chinese generals would not be affected, and the Chinese slave labor would put up with life as they have before, at a higher comfort level than ever before. (They are, after all, better off now than before Clinton’s/Bushes started trading so heavily to feed cheap prices here.
We’d be floored for two-three years of low productivity and intense pain like 1942-1943. Then, when our factories resumed production after being “built” again, China could simply flip the switch “on” to kill the rebuilt factories.
