Donald Trump will not be the Republican nominee for president, Ted Cruz said Thursday, claiming that a majority of the Manhattan real-estate mogul's supporters would end up voting for him instead.
Cruz was asked whether he believed he could beat Trump based on his principles, in an interview with WABC's Rita Cosby that will air on Sunday. "I think that's right. I think in time I don't believe Donald is going to be the nominee and I think in time the lions share of his supporters end up with us," the freshman senator predicted. "And I think the reason is what I was just saying, that if you look to the records of all the Republican candidates there's a big difference between my record and that of everyone else if you ask, who has stood up to Washington?
He continued: "Who's taken on not just Democrats, but taken on leaders in their own party? Republican leadership, whether was leading the fight to stop Obamacare? Whether it was leading the fight to stop executive amnesty? Or actually, just going back to last week. You know at the last Republican debate in California, every Republican candidate stood up there and said, 'we need to defund Planned Parenthood.' But last week, when we had an epic drag down fight in Washington, not one of them showed up."
Cruz, who has declined to criticize Trump, unlike some of his GOP presidential rivals, reiterated that he is "glad" he is in the race and that his candidacy has reflected favorably on his own positions.

Trumpers dislike Cruzs disdain for American workers:
<><> Cruz's support for amnesty,
<><> Cruz's support for a 500% increase in H1b work visas,
<><> Cruz's support for NAFTA-like trade deals.

The Trump people were forced to wave him off their tail. Cruz was told to stop using Donald's slogan......Cruz kept saying HE was going to "Make America Great Again."
Looks like every night as his poll numbers drop, Cruz counts how many times his name is mentioned on the internet, then spits out a press release of how good he's doing.
When Cruz draws 20,000 to a campaign event he might be considered a contender.
“But comparing his stellar performance in the Senate when Mr. Trump is and always has been in the private sector is an unfair comparison.”
Exactly- Trump hasn’t been in a position to take on the GOPe until recently, and he’s done a fine job on them and the MSM.
Can you say..... TPP? And I don’t mean toilet paper. I bet he’d rollover and vote for immigration bill too. He’s been in politics a long time. Better than some, not good enough!
I doubt that. We can’t stand her, but it is true that she may not be the candidate. Dems vote “D”. Many do not care what name is by it and have no idea of what issues are.
And hypocrit Mr. H1B thinks he’ll be the nominee?! Pathetic. Regret the several hundred dollars I donated to his campaign when he first announced. What a waste.
I wasn't aware of this. Cruz was holding steady, but he's going soft in the head. That's just beyond pathetic and desperate.
Cruz, take a back seat. You haven’t the iron fist that Trump has and this iron is all that can save us.
BIG mistake ,Senator.
>IF< true, Cruz can ESAD. >IF< true.
The mouthbreathers that are jealous of The Donald and still try to believe that this is a reality TV show act are desperate and need something to keep them occupied between “The Price Is Right” ending and the drive over to “Golden Corral”.
It's feeding time!
The nominee is not going to be Trump. It’s going to be Cruz.
That reminds me of a story from 1983 when President Reagan was battling with the congressional Democrats to get a budget passed which included his tax cuts. A reporter from the Washington Post named James Whittle accused the administration of using "underhanded tactics".
Reagan replied that Whittle was a "low-class, scum bag who has less talent in his whole body than I have in my pinky finger". He went on to say "I have seen Jame's wife and believe me, she is a 5 at best".****
Trump seems a lot like Reagan in many ways.
**** That didn't actually happen.
Yes, only the democrats can elect someone TOTALLY unqualified to win. A republican has to have some sort of background to indicate that he might know what he is doing if he is elected. Trump has no elective office history but he does have a history of managing huge projects.
I don’t know what else any candidate would be expected to say.
Its a non story.
Cruz brought it on himself...........if he had only kept his mouth shut. Cruz predicting if Trump gets out, his backers are going to him is an arrogant, boneheaded thing to say.

Cruz keeps pumping himself as a latino---a latino born in Canada?
In fact, only Cruz's father is Spanish. His mother is the product of Irish and Italian parents. Cruz has dined out on his father's name for too long; too willing to grovel for latino votes....as witness his support for amnesty, HB1 visas and the TPP atrocity.
There's a vengeful latino "us against them" strain in Cruz.
NOTE Cruz recently renounced his Canadian citizenship.
He’s most clever. Texas Ted is running a marathon and pacing himself just fine for a strong finish. Solid, Free Republic kind of a guy.
“So Mr. Pathways to Citizenship is making predictions already?”
Cruz has always said there should be NO pathway to citizenship for illegals. That has been his position forever, including when he led in the fight against the gang of eight.
IMHO, Cruz lacks humility.
I just don’t want Trump to give the MSM what they want and that’s another cat fight between him and another candidate, this time Cruz.
Donald says what we all want to say.
